Ok, This goes back to something that the Dutchess commented upon, the great anthems to the struggles and deaths of the common hero. Which is your favorite?
1. John Henry?
2. Born in the USA?
3. Salt of the Earth?
4. Working Class Hero?
5. Internationale?

I'm waiting for Shep, Pablo, or Vymp to jump in with some good, wholesome Soviet songs that can be enjoyed by the entire community bloc.

Born in the USA is a good song, but it does not belong on the list. It is not a positive anthem about the struggles and deaths of the common man. I'm not familiar with the others.

Tennessee Ernie Ford - 16 Tons wrote:
Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake* by an ol' mama lion
Cain't no-a high-toned woman make me walk the line
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you, then the left one will
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

Nope- the Red Army Choir's martial hymns are my faves. Oh, and Katyusha.

Lesse,
Power to the People, Lennon
Fanfare for the Common Man, Copland
Ode to Joy, Bach
All come to man, though I like working class hero, I really prefer the Copland.

Not to hijack a thread, but this makes me think of one thing which I've been wondering - why are there so many underground black/death metal bands promoting fascism, (eg. Burzum, Abigor, Nokturnal Mortum, Veles and Graveland) while I only can find three which promote Communism??? (Red Warszawa, Timebomb and Stalin Foetus)
(However, it must be noted that Communist bands tend to make up for their scarcity with their preachiness - just look at Rage Against The Machine)
Given that Mao, Pol Pot and Kim Il-Sung killed more people than the likes of Hitler, Franco and Pinochet, it's not as if communism can't be incorporated into the bog-standard "evil" black metal imagery.

PolPot and KimIl and Stalin can be better described as Facists, their totalitarian style of killing is on par with the likes of hitler and pinochet. Marxists by and large are utilitarian. They were powermad megolomaniacs.

Nitpick but.
Ludwig van Beethoven made Ode to Joy
Think you confused that one with:
Johann Sebastian Bach - Joy of Man's Desiring

Take This Job and Shove It ~ Ernie Paycheck
and my personal favorite....
Working Man by Rush.
"Working Man"
I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin'
Yes, I'm workin' all the time
[Chorus:]
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that's why they call me
They call me the working man
They call me the working man
I guess that's what I am
I get home at five o'clock
And I take myself out a nice, cold beer
Always seem to be wonderin'
Why there's nothin' goin' down here
[Chorus]
Well, they call me the working man
I guess that's what I am

Try
Dubinushka:
I have heard many songs all around the land
They have told me of blithe and of woe.
But my memory holds just one song of them all:
That's the song of the body of workers.
Hey, Dubina, the green one!
Hey, you, help us do the labor hard, the labor hard!
We pull it, and pull it,
And move it!!
Canny Englishmen did tons of gadgets invent
As to do all the labors routinely.
Russian men strive with hands till they're tired to death
Then they sing their hearts with "Dubina"!
Hey, Dubina, the green one!
Hey, you, help us do the labor hard, the labor hard!
We pull it, and pull it,
And move it!!
Oh, new times, come to us! When the workers wake up,
When they straighten the backs from the labor!
When they crush all who suck their strength, their blood,
Crush with their beloved Dubina!
Hey, Dubina, the green one!
Hey, you, help us do the labor hard, the labor hard!
We pull it, and pull it,
And move it!!
Dubina means "Wooden Club," and Dubinushka is the diminutive form of the same.

Then again, Hitler and Mussolini were both strongly inspired by Lenin. (In fact, Nazism is an abbrevation of "Nationalist Socialism", in case it's not obvious)

Hitler HATED communism dumbass.
Wasn't there a Nazi war poster that labeled capitalism as a marxist plot or vice versa?
I remember that being mentioned in the politics forum a while ago.

Hitler only disliked communism because it was internationalistic. (not because it was collectivistic) Also, according to David Schoenbaum's work "Hitler's Social Recolution", Hitler's economic policies were the most restrictive this side of the Soviet Union.
And there is strong evidence that Hitler had plans for a forced collectivization of German economy in case he won the war.
Wasn't there a Nazi war poster that labeled capitalism as a marxist plot or vice versa?
This only shows Hitler's dissatisfaction with the free market. Hitler only scapegoated communists because they were a rather small movement at that time.
Also - the Nazis noted that former communists made excellent converts to Nazism.

I also recall there being a propaganda movie that heroized nazi children stoned to death by the 'evil commies' while handing out pamphlets.
Communists who accept nationalism easily aren't good communists.
Communism was one of the two small factions vying for power in germany after WWI, along with the Nazis, but the nazis better propaganda campaigns and the fact that everyone loves the patriots when the country's poor, were able to rend the social democratic presense from power.
Also there were a great many links between the jewish communities in germany and the communists who had gained some power in the government.
National socialism == Fascism.

Exactly - and that's why fascists aren't considered communists. (It's still notable that Mussolini originally was the leader of a socialist party)

The Soviet Union and Red China hated each other ever since Stalin's death. Does this mean that one of these nations aren't communists??

Blue Collar Man
Give me a job give me security
Give me a chance to survive
I'm just a poor soul in the unemployment line
My God I'm hardly alive
My mother 'n father, my wife and my friends
You've seen them laugh in my face
But I've got the power and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case
I'll take those long nights, impossible odds
Keeping my eye on the keyhole
If it takes all that to be just what I am
Well I'm gonna be a blue collar man
Make me an offer that I can't refuse
Make me respectable man
This is my last time in the unemployment line
So like it or not
I'll take those long night, impossible odds
Keeping my back to the wall
If it takes all night to be just who I am
Well I'm gonna be a blue collar man
Keeping my mind on a better life
Where happiness is only a heartbeat away
Paradise can it be all I heard it was
I close my eyes and maybe I'm already there
(repeat chorus)

Now here's one about shoddy workmanship
The Rainmakers
Rocking at the T-Dance
Take a trip with me in 1967
With Grissom, White and Chaffee on a rocket ride to heaven
A dead end date aboard AS-204
It was American made, only the best for our boys.
And we were rocking at the T-Dance
Oh rocking at the T-Dance
One, Two, Three
I had another date with a homecoming queen
I took her to the prom in Apollo 13
We orbit the moon, we couldn't get home
Little Queenie's mom was pissed cause her baby didn't phone
And we were rocking at the T-Dance
Oh rocking at the T-Dance
Well can I get this fixed today
(It's not my job)
Well I need it so bad
(It's not my job)
Triple time is what I'll pay
(It's not my job)
But I need it so bad
One, Two, Three
Take a trip with me to Kansas City, MO
To the Hyatt House, to the big dance floor
You can still see the ghosts, but you can't see the sense
Why they let the monkey go and blamed the monkey wrench.
