ok so get this. At a beach near my house yesterday half a dozen sharks were spotted 100 yards from the shore. The beach patrol then calmly asks everyone to walk to shore. So far so good. We later learn that they are indeed blue sharks and a few are several feet long. Enter the local news reporters and politicians. Long story short the beach is closed, but every yahoo in a 20 mile radius goes to see the sharks. there are so many people crowding in to the beach the fucking National Guard shows up and you can see footage of waves and rocks form "LIVE! From Newscopter 12!!" <sigh> and to top it all off these are fucking blue sharks for chrissakes! they eat small fish, and unprovoked attacks on humans are near unheard of. But thats not what the dipshits flying around live in newscopter 12 are saying. nosiree! Those there are dangerous predators!

I remember I was snorkeling one time next to a reef and a black tipped reef shark was swimming in the same area as well, but it didn't seem interested in me

I seem to remember a tour group in Australia that decided a good way to see the sharks was to have people hop off the boat and onto the carcass of a whale that was floating nearby, and that the sharks were currently feeding on. This was made all the worse because the dead whale's carcass was slippery, and the people occasionally fell while walking back and forth on it, taking pictures of the sharks or attempting to pet them. That, IMO, was the stupidest tourist-shark encounter ever.

No, this was a tour group. Australia even passed laws in an effort to curb such behavior, and one legislator said that it was a law "to protect the stupid from themselves." I thought it was quite amusing.

Now a researcher getting on a whale carcass to get good photos... that is one thing, as they will be on a leash, incapable of falling off the corpse... but a group of fucking idiots walking around on whale blubber??? Fuckwits..

It wouldn't have made a difference. At the most the great whites would be curious, but wouldn't outright attack them. At the VERY most, one would've taken a test bite to see what it was, and then let it go. (that what 90% of what 'shark attacks' are)

Unless you're a tiger or mako. Those things are just vicious.

Though, if I remember correctly, the bull sharks are the worst man eaters. They'll swim up rivers and kill people. Wouldn't it be freaky, you're on a raft in a river tens of miles away from the ocean and you see a goddamn big dorsal fin come up from the surface?

Another great story from Australia was the time that one of the whale shark tours spotted a whale shark and so started depositing the tourists in the water with their snorkels etc... A few minutes later the boat has started screaming about grabbing people out of the water (rather roughly). People were demanding to know what was going on, so the operators revealed that they had made a slight mistake - mistake as in mistaking a FUCKING HUUUUGE tiger shark for a whale shark. Ooops.

Woah thats a big chomping mistake.

That is ture but after the GW took a sample snack out of one of thouse fools, the said fool would more then likely start screaming and trashing about and that would just be like ringing the dinner bell of an all you can eat dinner in front of a horde of starving people.
