Newest Anti-Drug Commercial

Well, the Ad Council and the AFDFA have yet to top the 'marijuana makes you pregnant' commerical, but their newest helping is quite enough.
Interestingly enough, this particular one is an Ad Council commercial. While the AFDFA ones often have nothing to do with drugs, the Ad Council tends to put out the most mind-bogglingly stupid ones, such as the aforementioned 'marijuana makes you pregnant' ad. Well, their workforce is probably drawn entirely from central Pennsylvania, so my expectations shouldn't be terribly high to begin with. Hah!
Anyway, basically, it starts with a kid, middle school, probably, walking downstairs. It follows him on his exciting adventure down the steps, and while this is going on he is saying stuff like, "Yeah, my brother does pot...he didn't get in trouble with the law, didn't do harder drugs, didn't get involved in crime..." on and on and on "...didn't die, didn't overdose..." on and on and on down what must be the freakin' steps of Khaza-dum, only with the kid's voice instead of a hailstorm of arrows(though it's debatable which is worse), until he finally makes it into the basement and you see his brother, who is watching something on TV, in the middle of a marijuana cloud, sitting on his couch, smoking pot.
The kid tosses his brother some dollar bills or something, then walks upstairs, and says, with such a clever little look, "He didn't really do much of anything."
Fade to black, and a voiceover that reads Marijuana: It's More Harmful Than We All Thought
Pain. Pain and agony.

I mean, that commercial makes no argument for the illegalization of marijuana; but, I suspect the Ad Council(or at least the execs, the ones that come from Philadelphia and Pittsburg instead of Hicksville, central PA) are so secure in the illegalization of marijuana that they now are trying just to run ads that will stop kids from trying it illegally, except by showing a commercial that shows that, well, marijuana doesn't really have many harmful effects at all, not only are they contradicting their earlier commercials, they're pushing fence-sitters into the other guy's lawn.

I find the one with the punk wannbe middle schooler and parent asking him were he will be that night, as if that will stop a single fucking thing:roll: , far more annoying.

This one's pretty lame, but personally I don't have a problem with these commercials. They're not spam or advertising shit, they have an actual purpose.

There sufficiently stupid to make people want to go out and use just as a nice big fuck you to the people who make them.

What purpose? Propaganda? Stating the fucking obvious (driving while fucked up is bad...well no fucking shit--you're driving, you're supposed to be paying attention. How about for an encore they do a commercial with a flaming car wreck and a voiceover that says, "Changing the radio station: it's more harmful than we all thought")? Balancing out the vapid blather on TV with sanctimonious vapid blather? Whitewashing the truth: that the War on Drugs is a black hole for tax dollars, unconstitutional, and grossly unjust to the tens of thousands of nonviolent drug offenders currently rotting in prison?

Agreed, every toke taken is a non-verbal way of saying fuck off.
And the whole "drugs=terrorism" right after 9-11 was just insanely pathetic.

And we all know how many average Americans are capable of seeing the fucking obvious. If people have to be brainwashed by dumb commercials to get them from sniffing crack, then so be it.

What does crack have to do with pot?

They're anti-drug commercials! I wasn't referring to any one in particular.

Wait... so if I smoke pot, I never have to do anything, as my little brother will provide me with cash? Bonus!

Well, therein lies a problem. Pro drug-war types want us to think all drugs are equal. They aren't. Crack kills, weed can concieveably make a lazy asshole into a stoner lazy asshole.

If you need a TV commercial to tell you that crack is bad, drugs are the least of your problems.
News flash: everybody who takes drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, has been told they're bad over and over again. They take drugs because they don't give a shit. In some cases, after they first experimented and discovered they hysterical propaganda they've been fed about some drugs is horseshit, they assume they've been lied to about everything and that drug is completely harmless, which is another strike against those stupid commercials.

I don't see the problem with sitting on the couch and watching TV. I do that and I'm not even stoned. Does that make me evil?

Gnomes aren't evil! (except for the one that crushed the
Uber-Pea, he was made because he didn't make SEGNOR)

no drug is dangerous in sufficiently small doses. problem is, people happen
across drugs and take them in such large doses their first time that theyre
already heading into the danger zone. anyone on prescription stimulants
like methamphetamine knows that a <5mg dose is neither dangerous nor
tremendously addicting in the way that a >30mg dose is, and yet most
people start using with doses higher then 30mg. thats the problem, people
start so high that they need to maintain such high levels, which eventually
weaken. the lower you start, the less addictive and the less tolerant you
are.
And with soft drugs like pot, its hard to build tolerances. I'd love to see an
ad that argues for the legalization of marijuana by showing off the great
culture amsterdam has and how not everyone who smokes the shit is a
complete stoner.

They are insulting to my intellegence....
Now how do I explain to my kids that it's ok for Grandpa to smoke it as he feels very guilty about killing people during a war....
