The Chinese are crazy enough to actually drain the lake just to crush the counter revolutionary myth. Nothing can exist without state control.

As Dr. Dean Edell frequently says, the Chinese are among some of the most superstitious people on the planet. Obviously, however, lake monsters are not at all confined to China. These things come and go.

Other stuff I've seen suggest that the bear probably did exist in some form, but that they where just some polar bears that came south. Still, you never know…
