The Chupacabra eats goats, not sheep. Well, I guess it eats most anything, but cabra means "goat", and chupa basically means "suck". And it's not just from South America, people in the Caribbean, Mexico, pretty much any Latin American people are known to have the fear of EL CHUPACABRA!
I remember being told about the Chupacabra when I was in first grade. I laughed my ass off, much to the dismay of some of my friends.

El chupacabra is a legendary Latin American animal that is said to suck the blood of goats (hence the name), chickens, and people. It's kind of their equivalent to the bogerman, except that some people never really grow out of believing in it. Most people acknowledge that the thing does not exist, and for the sane people it's kind of a cultural thing. El chupacabra is one of the "cool" symbols of macho things, so you'll see sports teams and such named "Los Chupacabras," and such. You'll also occasionally hear of exchange students being sent on hunts for "el chupacabra" (instead of snipes), and similar things like that.

The object in the picture appears to be some sort of large fish that's been mutilated and given canine teeth. My guess is that it's just a mask.
