I just saw something that blew me away

My girlfriend and I just came back from a show at the local indian casino here. It was a man named Mike Albert who performs a tribute to Elvis (an Elvis impersonator). Ok, how can I describe this. First of all, he looks almost exactly like the King. http://www.rosscountyfair.com/mikealbert.htm
Look at that pic and tell me that he doesn't.

Ok, first of all, the women were all over him. He might as well have been Elvis because the reaction from the women in the audience was the same. At one point, he brought two women on stage (both panting and literally attacking him) and they danced while he sang. One woman, who was a bit older, really got down. The funny thing was, at the end of the song her husband came up and brought her her cane. She then limped off the stage. Mike (Elvis) laughed and said, "demons be gone!" It really did look like a faith healer bit. Anyway, this guy had all the girls going nuts. Young and old alike. It was wild.

Secondly, his band really did rock. He had probably seven musicians that also sang back up and two girls that also harmonized. I have to say that this guy really did Elvis justice. He sounded almost just like Elvis.

Anyway, that's my story. He put on a damn good show. Even if you don't like Elvis, I think you would enjoy this show.

So, I should probably point out that this dude is easily making over 100K per year doing a man who has been dead since 1977. Amazing...

You know, all the Elvis impersonators I know impersonate Elvis in his latter years as he got more gaudy and coked up. Does anyone try to impersonate Elvis in his more youthful days?

Oh yeah, I've seen a few in Vegas. The ones that impersonate his younger years, I mean.

But really, when Elvis was performing in Vegas before he fattened up and got strung out, he was very good. His vocal abilities were even better than what they were in the 50's. People mostly remember his 70's years from the very end though...

He's been doing a man who has been dead since 1977? You're right that is amazing, but it's also gross, sick and fucking disgusting.

Well, the concept may be disgusting but Elvis is an icon. To many, he was like the freggin messiah or something.

I still say that was a damn good show.

Hmmm...He really looks like The King...and that means, he's ugly.

On the other hand I never had any respect to those who has musical talent but can't get their own style.

That's copying another character...not really worthy in my eyes but it can be entertaining for once.

Boba Fet, I think I once remember Elvis himself telling an impersonator that, while he was flattered, one's own talents should also be explored. In other words, he was telling the impersonator to develop his own skills.

Since Elvis is dead, though, there's nothing wrong with having some fun and seeing what it would have been like.

No you didn't get it. What's the other context "doing" can fit into.

Does he have to age like Elvis did as part of the job, and in 10-20 years he'll have to start doing drugs and become fat?

So was he impersonating "Young Elvis"; "Old, Fat Elvis", or "Fat, Dead-on-the-Toilet" Elvis?

I personally cannot understand the immense and downright freaky cult of personality that has developed around Elvis. Same with the Beatles. Effin' wierd. I guess it is something to do for people who shop at places where the last name is "-Mart"

I have a deep-seated, instant and incredibly strong aversion to anything Elvis-related, thanks to my dad. Sorry, can't appreciate it!

Nouns ending with S are pluralized with ii. So it would be Die Elvii Die. lol Elvii now thats a funny word.

Would dental floss become dental floii?

The "i" ending is an irregular form reserved for words ending in -us. Normally, nouns ending in "s" are pluralized with an "es."

Couldn't Elvis' (with a silent "es" on the end) also be used as a plural form? So it could be: DIE ELVIS'!!! :P

the -us to -ii is a latin artifact only. you say virus and virii and bus and buses, not bus and bii.

Anyway, I wounder if in 40 or 50 years the backstreet boys, nsync, or britney spears will have impersonators at vegas.

Use of an apostrophe would be possessive, as in describing something that belonged to the Elvises (i.e. "Elvis' corpulent, smelly flesh."). You can still use 's here as well ("Elvis's"), since it's singular.

Plural possessive would be "Elvises'"

Actually it's -us to -i. One i. A lot of people get confused and add an extra i, possibly because of the word radius. The stem of radius ends with the letter i, so when you add the ending -i it becomes radii. People look at that plural and think the -ii is the ending, but the ending is actually just -i. The first i is part of the stem. So the plural of virus is not virii, but viri. Unless you happen to be speaking English instead of Latin, in which case the plural is viruses.

I imagine Britney Spears already has a number of impersonators in Vegas, available to keep you company at reasonable hourly rates.
