My absense (rant)

I didn't post yesterday cause I tried to get the router up and running, so that there would be internet on both my parent's computer, and my brand new one.

[rant]
Well, guess what? Software incompatible with Windows XP. Shitty Winblows. So I do the settings by hand. But the modem refuses to work with the router. Fucking Motorola. Then it works. But one of my cables is damaged. So I need to replace it. Fucking Future Shop. Then I get it working, but my parent's shit comp crashes, and I need to reset everything from the start. Fuck that. I take a break, and go back to transferring my files from computer to computer. The CD burner works, but when I try to test a file Quicktime stops working, and won't let the CD eject. All part of that prick company apple's plan to screw over PC users, I bet. Then my Dad sees that, and says I'm not allowed to transfer any more files. Little cunt. So I go back to the router. I call my ISP (Shaw) for help. "I'm sorry, but we can't help you with foreign devices." Fuckers. Then I call Netgear (the company that made the router). "Did you pay less than $45 for the router?" Yeah. "In that case, I'm sorry, but rule number <babble> says that we can't help you." Fuckers. I spent a few more hours, and then the router started working. Finally.

OMFG that was a classic case of Computer Anti-Midas Syndrome if I ever saw one. Good job fighting through it, tho.

Don't worry about the dad. My mom says stupid things about computers all the time. Just let him think he's in control. Works with my mom.

Maybe you should go into the router's settings and cut your dad's bandwith down a bit. :D

The moral of this story: don't buy a cheap router.

My computer actually sucks about 70% of the bandwith from our modem. That means his connection is the same as a 56k one. :D

It normally costs ~ $90. I bought it for $30.

Control panel-> Administrative Tools->Computer Management->storage->Removeable Storage->Media-> rightclick on CD Burner which is locked-> "Free" then "Eject".

That will unlock & eject a locked CD drive. If it doesnt, the hardware has issues and you will need to manuelly eject it. And probable buy a new drive.

You might be able to just use the "eject" menu item instead of clicking "free" 1st, but I'm not 100% sure.

PS;
There are shorter ways to get to that command, as well as longer ways. This is just 1 way I'm positive anybody can follow.

A device which takes your Internet connection, and shares it between 2-4 computers. Add a hub or switch, and up to 256 computers can be connected through one router.
