Ned Flanders, The Logical Fundamentalist?

Post by Dorsk 81 »

Ok, yea I know the Simpsons is a cartoon.

I was reading through the biblical flood thread just now and it got me thinking about an episode of the Simpsons. Now Ned is a fundie, it's pretty obvious when he talks about burning Harry Potter at the stake for practicing witch craft, but in another episode, Homer says something like "While writting a shopping list I accidently proved there was no God", Neds responce is "Well maybe...nope, oh well can't let this get out" and burns the paper with the proof on it.
Now, from the fundies I've seen, my guess would have been they would have just said "That's a lie. I will pray for you."
What would the fundies you know do? Ignore it and say you were lying? Accept it and become an athiest? Call you the devil and burn you at the stake?

The fundies I know would just say I lacked faith.

Shouldn't this be in SLAM?

I don't know any fundies. Not of the Christian kind. In fact, people as religious as Ned Flanders are quite rare in Denmark. But those we have would probably just respond their usual way - by appealing to emotions rather than giving an intelligent rebuttal.

"No, actually I would HATE to have a cookie, you vapid waste of inedible flesh!"

Don't think so, it's not scientific, logical or moral.
It's just some good old fundie mocking fun! :)

Isn't it also for religious stuff?

I did think about putting it in there, but I thought mocking fundies seemed more OT than anything.

Nitpick: Homer was filing his tax return when he accidentally proved there was no God.

Actually, Ned's reaction was pretty similar to what I would expect from Fundies I know.

Thanks for the correction.

No doubt that because I live in a little farming village in the middle of no where there are plenty of fundies around here, which would explain why I get crosses pointed at me when ever I go outside, but I've never had a debate with them over anything and I'd be highly surprised if the inbreads round here were capable of speech, let alone thought.
