OK, yeah, Google rocks, but anyone use other search engines to find stuff?

I use http://www.profusion.com for metasearches (you can search up to 10 different web directories and indexes at once) if I'm having trouble finding something with Google. You can also set up page alerts to be notified when a particular page is updated. Quite handy for some things.

I use it occassionally because it will let you search for audio and video files.

I use Google exclusively now, mostly because a) it kicks ass, and b) Opera has a kickass built-in Google search field in the upper-right.

Before I used Google (way back in the day), I used Dogpile.

I used Northern Light as a Google alternative until they decided to close their web search function. As of now, I use Google pretty much exclusively.

Personalisable metasearch engine. Can deep-search other sites' internal search engines, and can sort the rsults by topic and by what engine returned them.

And because, unlike Google, it doesn't exclusively search static content, you're much more likley to get the answer to your search, not a load of mindless pap.

Same here. I have a trippy Google bar, so I can use it whenever, whatever site I am on.

They plan to reopen it later.

Anyways, alltheweb, since it has the second largest database.

If not Google, I use the Google toolbar (powered by Google) or AOL Search (also powered by Google). There's also this nifty little thing:Desktop Google :D

Google.

Long ago, I used a combination of Lycos, Altavista and Infoseek (back when Lycos was a university project, Altavista was part of DEC and Infoseek was independant). Hotbot came along and I mostly used that. I switched over to Google shortly after they released-to-public.

But I guess that's technically a database.
