What, the flies, or the kids?darthdavid wrote:Get some hair spray and flamethrower em.
Ever since my junket to Kuwait years ago (and likely again in the future), I've had more than my fill of flies. You would think that since the desert is so dry, flies would not be so innumerable, but they are. The floor of my track was so littered with dead flies that is was black with their guts, and one was guaranteed to eat one to five of the critters a day while attempting to eat MRE's or "A"s.Darth Wong wrote:My kids have been playing in the backyard lately, and every time they go in or out, more flies get in. I have heard that too, and I have seen Restaurants using this "tactic", it works quit well. If anybody knows the answer please share your wisdom with the less enlightend.Drewcifer wrote:OK, this is going to sound crazy, but I've heard that if you hang large plastic bags (like trash bags), with a fair amount of water in them, by your doors, flys will stay away. I know several people that swear by it, but I have never tried it myself. I can't think of any rational reason why this work either, unless water + sunlight + plastictrashbags gives off some odor that's offensive to flys. (which would amaze me, flys liking shit and all)
Just thought I'd pass that on.
It's freezing over here. Flies cannot stand in Australian winter. Bwhahahahah.Darth Wong wrote:My kids have been playing in the backyard lately, and every time they go in or out, more flies get in. The fucking house is infested with flies! AAARRRGGHHH!!!!
ROFLMAO!!! That's a good idea...victorhadin wrote:I got assaulted by a big swarm of flies when walking the dog the other day. The bastards were irritating the hell out of me, so I randomly clapped my hands together a couple of times and, by chance, smashed one of them into so much pulp. I can only assume that they give off some kind of distress pheromone when you do that, as the entire swarm of the buggers flew off and stayed the hell away for the rest of the walk.
standing water will just create a breeding ground for mosquitos. Mike you have to get rid of any stagnant water in the yard. insects love that shit, it's like the $5 an hour fuckshop motel for bugs. And flies love trash. spray the cans with Lysol a couple of times a week. Thats about all you can do. I mean, you could spray the lawn with Yard Guard every day, but unless you want three eyed grandchildren someday, thats really not a good idea.Drewcifer wrote:OK, this is going to sound crazy, but I've heard that if you hang large plastic bags (like trash bags), with a fair amount of water in them, by your doors, flys will stay away. And it could be worse. We have a terrible chigger problem here this summer, can't go out in the damn yard without long pants on, which sucks when it's hot like today, 99F, heat index 111F. (that's about 40C for you metrics)
Surprisingly, this isn't actually a bad idea. I've been in places that ARE mosquito breeding grounds and the water-in-the-bag trick works. Don't ask me how, it just DOES.Col.
