Hmm Am I evil for proposing this?

Post by MKSheppard »

Well, you see, Hipper and me last night were talking about
radio controlled warship combat:

Linky Here
and Here too

Hipper said that he couldn't do that, as they sink.

I said they look cheap because they're BB guns and they
can fire 4 pellets/second.

Image

Anyway, Hipper and I started talking about realistic naval combat,
especially after I figured that in 1:72 scale, 406mm (16-inch) is
equal to 5.6mm, roughly about the size of a 5.56mm NATO round,
and that 40,000+ yards (about 23 miles) at 1:72 scale came out to
555 yards or just a quarter of a mile.

So it's theoretically possible to ballistically match a 5.56mm round
to a 16-inch shell at 1:72 scale.

And have your own mock naval gun duels between 1:72 ship targets
and a scale USS Iowa Gun turret....

Oh yeah, and this guy's model kicks ass

You're not evil, but I don't think it would be very safe with all those 5.56mm bullets flying around.

SAFE? How could it be educationally realistic mock combat and be safe? :D
That's why you have to build armor into your model.

1:72 scale, damn, those model ships are gonna be about 10' long. That's a pretty good sized model if you ask me. The only problem I see is that you'd somehow have to get explosive 5.56mm rounds to make it fully accurate. :)

We had one of those ship battles a few years back on a pond about a mile away from where I live. It was pretty kick ass. The larger battleships shot ball bearings ( 7-8mm) while some of the smaller destroyers shot regular bbs. Some of the ships literally sunk and had to be fished out.

You're evil, but this idea of yours sounds pretty cool.
