Looking at the FAQ, it says 2000, and you still have to be a notable personality.

Initially it was to be 2500...I did around 4500 or so.

Mostly it's just an arbitary barrier.

Sorry, the worst he just did is muck up the main cameras and a few long-range comm antennas. I then turn around and deliver a reverse kesai-geri (monk's-robe cut) to slice Kong in two from jewels to throat.
