Hmm... nope, poor bastard...

It shouldn't be that bad though, good luck.

In my opinion, having your tonsils out as an adult is a thoroughly wretched experience... not only couldn't I talk, but my throat hurt so amazingly bad and I ran such a high fever that I couldn't do anything for 48 hours. In fact, the afternoon I got home from the hospital I received an order I'd placed for a number of historical replicas (weapons and coins, mostly) and I couldn't even bear to open the box to look at them. Luckily, I have great parents (who I lived with at the time) and they opened the box for me and showed me everything one at a time.

My experience may have been worse, though, since I have lupus... hard to say what it can affect sometimes. Good luck.

Heh, had mine removed at a tender age of five/six. The best part was, I could eat all the ice cream I wanted.

I had mine out 12 years ago. Sadly, its not very plesent when your first wake up, but its worth it in the long run.

Oh.. when I was 9. It was relatively painless, until I woke up from the anestetic and started vomiting blood.

But that was temporary. The rest of my stay (2-3 dys?) I got Ice cream for every meal.

They grow back, you know....

Have fun, I know that for most people it is a very annoying and painful experience.

Mine were pulled 3 years ago (I was 16 at the time). However I did not need very much of the painkiller stuff, and it all healed really quick.

Of course there was the "minor" problem of a high-level necrotizing infection causing the 2 literally golf ball sized black (at the time) lumps in the back of my throat which used to be tonsils, to rot. Which caused a total immune system collapse and I ended up on cipro and some other uber-antibiotics for about a month prior to the operation to remove them... Yep, having body parts start rotting really sucks, hurts like a bitch, and really isn't any fun at all, in short, that is why the pain afterwards was nothing.

Oh and I really tripped out the recovery room nurses, I started waking up, they asked how I was doing, I asked how long until I could leave, and they said 30 minutes minimum, I got up about 10 minutes later and walked out. (mind over body is great)

I remember my great grandmother telling me about having her tonsils removed, damn, it must have nearly a century ago now. They held her down in a chair and the doctor/dentist tied a string around them and sliced them off. No anesthesia, no antibiotics, no nice hospital bed, no ice cream, weren't the "good old days" great?

I've still got my tonsils and appendix. Though I will be having my wisdom teeth removed later this month, and I came close to losing my spleen a few months ago.

Still have my tonsils. My appendix ruptured back in '83 so I had to have emergency surgery to have it yanked. This was before they could do everything lacroscopiclly so I have a scar that goes nearly half-way across my lower abdomen.

The cool thing about my appendix rupturing is that I had to have a drainage tube sticking out of my gut while I was in the hospital. The really freaking thing was when the surgeon pulled it out and I saw that there had been about 8-10 inches of rubber inside my abdomen. It also felt kind of freaky, not painful, but it's about as close as I need to come to knowing what it feels like to have my guts pulled out.

I had my tonsils out when I was a small child. I was too scared to ask for lots of ice cream or popcisles cause I thought I would get into trouble for some reason. Thats all I really remember.

I thought this operation became a thing of the past???

It's done a lot less that it used to be. For awhile if you came in to have your appendix out as a kid they'd yank your tonsils just to be on the safe side. It was eventually decided that wasn't such a good idea and now because of improvements in diagnosis and treatment far fewer people need to have their tonsils removed.

Never had any sort of surgery unrelated to my head or teeth.

As of today, I still have my tonsils. I know a guy who had his tonsils removed - and it resulted in him speaking in a really funny squeaky voice.

Ah hospitals. I was told my olive skinned sister turned white when I threw up while she was visiting me [had to go in for a dick reduction]. Why, what's so bad about a bit of throw up? Well it wasn't food. It was blood. I wish I was conscience enough to have seen that.

Yup.. got my tonsils and adenoids removed because I had irregular breathing when I was younger.

Your throat is really sore for a while and even ice cream hurts eating.
