It's the hill where Jebus was crucified. The setting for the book is that in our time, a hacker is destroying the gospels, and some corporation contacts St. Timothy and has him record a new one. They offer as compensation to let him anchor the live broadcast of the crucifixtion. It's a really strange book at times. Imagine if Einy was St. Paul, for example.

Anyway, I remember Golgotha as being the name of the mountain where a vast store of Japanese war gold was stored in Cryptonomicon.
