My country is on fire..

And my grandparents village has burned. All the woods are gone, and we don't know if our house is still standing. I'm just glad my grandparents are already dead and were spared to this
Help from the E.U is on its way to fight the most extensive fire front of the last 20 years.
That is all. My heart is bleeding for the memories of a paradise forever lost.

Sorry to hear it, bud.
It is sad how much we're loosing in natural resources, nothing we can do against the Nature, but those fucking arsonists should be burned with their crimes.

I swear, if I ever catch one arsonist in the act I'll knock him out, tie him up and leave him in the middle of the fire, to burn.

I know what you mean. We were having fires like crazy here in Colorado last year. IIRC the town of Bailey was nearly torched.

Moved to offtopic, due to PM feedback, and also because the situation in Portugal is getting worse, we're literally burning here and the government seems disconnected from the reality. I hope to God that the fuckers fall due to this. They're yet to declare the state of emergency because, in their own words, where they are there's no emergency. While people die and elders are left homeless skilled people on vacation, like me, are left without options to help because the fucktards chose to bury the head in the sand instead of using all means possible to prevent the country from disappearing in ashes.

and it´s going to be a year with even less tourists. it would probably have been notably less already because of the tanker accident.

I'm very, very sorry to hear this, Col. Olrik. We deal with fires every year in Arizona, but we do NOT deal with governmental idiocy like you've described, that is literally beyond fucking belief!

Damn, I hope you making this out okay...other then the damage that's been done.
But yes, the government stupidity and evasion is astounding if they haven't annouced a state of emergency.
I am also sorry to hear for the loss of personal effect you must have gone through...that is always a serious blow to anyone.

I just finished watching the latest news.. The whole Country is in risk.. and the assholes extraordinairs in power are preaching that what is to be done is to warn people to be more careful to where they throw their cigarettes.. while freaking WAR images pass on the TV. That's it..
TIME TO DIE, CRETINS
I'm starting a "who to punch the theeth into the mouth* list. All government officials are by default included. No court can judge me, it's legitimate defense.
After that, I'm moving to Sweden.
Christ, who died and left the retards in charge..

Meh, you'll get used to it.
In the meantime however, the killing of those who throw cigarettes out car windows, leave fires unattended or START THE SHIT DELIBERATELY is welcome to commence.

He said they were dead before this.
The worst fire we had around here was a mild pile of burning tires, so I can't possibly imagine what's going on there.

Sorry to hear that Col., in Australia we have to deal with this shit every summer (last Summer was quite bad), we at least had everyone in on fighting the fires as they were basically encroaching on our largest city. It was scary as we could see the flames from my house.
Have you started geting firefighters from other close places yet?

Sorry to hear about that, Colonel Olrik. I just went to Portgual last month I quite liked it - it's terrible to see the such burnings. I've been through one of those Australian fires myself, although I haven't had it quite as bad as my home being burnt.

You have my sympathies for the situation, Olrik--I can only imagine what a really bad fire could be like in Portugal, which must be quite much more built-up than the U.S. What are the resources being mustered at the local level?

The nice thing about living on the West Coast of the USA is that, while we probably have fires larger in area than all of Portugal, we have the resources and infrastructure to deal with them. This must come as a bit of a shock to an area less used to them.

Sorry to hear about the fires! I have not heard about it on the news. What this an arson fire? Is it extra intense because nobody has managed the brush for years. Wild fires are part of life in the western states, but they have been worse than normal due to the fuel load.

I fell for Ya. Each year, it seems, half of my state burns in wildfires. Some are caused by humans, others lightning. Either way I wish your National Gov. is like my State Gov. is with fire, KILL THE FUCKING THING.

[bites lip] Although I don't know if this can compare, we just had two fires right here in my city this past month, and nearly the entire city of Los Alamos burned down two summers ago (it was all over CNN and everything).. so as little as this may really mean, I hope that something is salvaged out of this for you..

I've got a question: If the Portuguese government refuses to declare a state of emergency or respond on a national level, could the EU intervene and declare a state of emergency or officially dispatch firefighting teams? Or is the EU not that potent yet?

Thanks, Duchess. I appreciate the words. I don't know wtf is happening with the emergency services, I've never seen such dumbasses in the coordination team. In theory, we have about 40.000 firefighters available and the veicles to equipe them. I don't know how many planes and helis. The army has also already assisted with 2.000 men (yet another thing I don't understand, we have 40.000 men only in the army, wtf do we need them for if they're not allowed to help save the country? It would only take for the The Dumbasses in Charge to declare the SoE).
Although we could have three times the means and would probably not be enough. We have (had!) the longest extension of pine trees forest in the E.U. Which is no small feat considering our relative size. I can't imagine how much money is lost in resources and patrimony.

I don't think so (the E.U is sovereign in external emergencies, though, if we were attacked
they would declare the SoE), but there's a nice clause called EU emergency call for help, thast was only actioned
yesterday by the government dumbasses, to which all the E.U states are obliged to respond with all available means at their possession, so I expect (hope!) to see some real fire fighting and coordination today.
