Not really. It is certainly helped along by cultural values, but the fact remains that being deeply embarrassed DOES create physical effects on the body, similar in most ways to the FoF response. It does appear to be a physical emotion that evolved in humans to prevent us from making fools of ourselves in front of our peers, which is a good way to get oneself removed from the gene pool.
