Yeah. It's usually a bad idea. I once saw an episode of Cops where some jerk was fleeing from the police in his car, and then he ran out of gas and had to run by foot. They sure do play that episode a lot.

I'll do my best to remember that.

Unless I'm behind the wheel of an M1A1, but unlike the San Diego guy, I'll use the gun.

You know, there's gotta be some instances where the criminals elude the cops and disappear. Just once, I'd like them to show an episode of COPS where the crook isn't some idiot Southern white-trash and actually shows some intelligence.

I once was using an old train ticket to travel on the trains (just flash it to the station guy, he doesn't check the date)- and then one day I saw these two cops and one State Rail official guy standing at the top of the stairs giving everyone's ticket a REAL hard look. I'm screwed I thought. But no, my friend, who I had just run into, didn't have any ticket at all. As I hand the official guy my useless ticket, my friend bolts. The two cops and him give chase. ZOOM, I'm running off in the other direction.

That's the closest I've ever come to eluding the police.

I wonder if, after they caught my friend (yes, he tells me they caught him), the official guy looked at the last ticket in his hand before the chase began

They won't show it, since there would be a lot more idiot Southern white-trash idiots afterwards who would go "Hey, I saw this guy get away on COPS! I can do it too!" after seeing a squad car signalling them to stop.

The second story reminds my of an accident that my dad responded to. There were no cops but a dunk driver and friend were speeding down the high way when they crashed into the gardrail. They didn't side-swip, no too easy, they crashed head-long into the begining of it and drove 100 meter with the rail right down the middle. Had the bolts holding the rail not been there, they would have walked away with out a scrach. But no, the driver had a very large gash on his thigh and his friend lost his arm.

Well, it always seems like a good idea at the time ... to run away from the cops, but i mean, weve already established that they aren't very smart... so thats also why the decide to run.

... and they never show the instances when the criminal gets away, because that would make the cops look bad. i mean, they didn't put the rodney king thing on cops ... that wouldda been very bad. Cops get ditched more often than they show, they're just trying to keep a lawful and perfect image for them.

...but you know how that goes... its just that smart marketing at work again :)
