My thesis was approved!

Despite my hope that I wouldn't ever start a thread like this (personal aggrandizement), I just thought that it might be appropriate to share.

I returned from my thesis defense today, with my thesis bearing the signatures of my committee members. As a result, I've now officially earned my Bachelor?s in Biochemistry and Biophysics with Honors. Huge load off my mind (if you'd noticed, I was posting even less than usual here lately).

From reading the title I thought you just got your masters or a PhD. Are you required to write a thesis for undergrad? How does honors work?

Depends on the university, Princeton requires an undergrad thesis, Harvard doesn't. It all depends on where you go to and which faculty you're in.

The Honors program I'm in requires that I perform research and write a thesis based on that research then defend it before a committee in order to graduate. I would have graduated back in the spring, but needed to complete said research, which took longer than expected (delaying me a term). In addition, some majors require an undergrad thesis anyway -- physics being the most notable one where I'm at (Oregon State University).

Well done. You are now qualified to go get a job and find that you have so much more to learn.
