Music that makes you nostalgic..

What song or piece really invokes a strong sense of nostalgia in you?
Currently for me it's Mary Fahl's "Going Home" with its beautiful guitar and violin melody with Fahl's strong voice going.
They say there’s a place
where dreams have all gone
They never said where
but I think I know
It’s miles through the night
just over the dawn
on the road that will take me home
I know in my bones
I’ve been here before
The ground feels the same
though the land’s been torn
I’ve a long way to go
The stars tell me so
on this road that will take me home
Love waits for me ‘round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And I’ll know what I’ve lost
and all that I’ve won
when the road finally takes me home
And when I pass by
don’t lead me astray
Don’t try to stop me
Don’t stand in my way
I’m bound for the hills
where cool waters flow
on this road that will take me home
Love waits for me ‘round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And we’ll know what I’ve lost
and all that we’ve won
when the road finally takes me home
I’m going home
I’m going home
I’m going home

Goo Goo Dolls | "Iris"
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that i'v ever been
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
and sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

Deep Blue Something, Breakfast at Tiffany's
You say we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don't care
And I said "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
She said "I think I remember the film
And as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it"
And I said "Well, that's the one thing we've got"
I see you, the only one who knew me
But now your eyes see through me
I guess I was wrong
So what now? It's plain to see we're over
I hate when things are over
When so much is left undone

vamp as Velveteen and Pop Art were the first LP/CD I ever owned, repectively. (Only own one LP, aren't I a baby?)
Poison by Alice Cooper reminds me of the best concert I ever went to (anyone else been serenaded by a monster rock star? Anyone?)
What a Feeling and anything from
Bugsy Malone reminds me of the fun I had in the Young Theatre.
Sweet Child of Mine reminds me of what a gem Rob was when e first strated going out, and I was still suffering form PTSD, and I still had to go through the whole court case.
I love Rock and Roll by the Jetts reminds me of my favourite club that's now no more

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight by Genesis, or pretty much anything by Genesis, Blondie, Paula Brannigan, Duran Duran (80's music in general)

I'm with the Vorlon. 80s music makes me nostalgic for the 80s, which you youngsters may make fun of but was a fucking great decade. It started with Ronnie Reagan getting into office, became the ultimate party decade, and ended with Communism falling and me finding Rebecca.

Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" always makes me miss my dad.

80's music...the whole kit and kaboodle.
Some late 70's...but that's more because my dad always had the radio on whenever we went out.

Most of the music from 1996. The summer 96 was my time. I had my fiance. I was doing my GCSE's and i was about to find my true happyness. Less than a year later it had all fallen apart.

As Nitram so painfully knows, everytime I hear "19-Something" by Mark Willis the radio is cranked. This song should speak to every child of the '80's. We've been there.
I saw Star Wars at least eight times,
Had the Pac-man pattern memorised.
And I've seen the stuff they put inside Stretch Armstrong, yeah.
Oh, I was Roger Staubach in my backyard,
Had a shoebox full of baseball cards,
And a couple of Evil Knievil scars on my right arm.
Well, I was a kid when Elvis died.
An' my momma cried:
Well, it was nineteen-seventy-something,
In the world that I grew up in.
Farah Fawcett hair-do days,
Bell bottoms and eight-track tapes.
Lookin' back now I can see me.
Oh man, did I look cheesy.
But I wouldn't trade those days for nothin':
Oh, it was nineteen-seventy-something.
It was the dawning of a new decade,
We got our first microwave,
Dad broke down and finally shaved them old sideburns off.
I took the stickers off-a my Rubik's cube.
Watched MTV all afternoon.
My first love was Daisy Duke in them cut-off jeans.
Space shuttle fell out of the sky.
And the whole world cried.
Well, it was nineteen-eighty-something,
In the world that I grew up in.
Skatin' rinks and black Trans-Ams.
Big hair and parachute pants.
An' lookin' back now I can see me.
Oh man, did I look cheesy.
I wouldn't trade those days for nothin':
Oh, it was nineteen-eighty-something.
Now I got a mortgage and an SUV,
But all this responsibility,
Makes me wish sometimes:
It was nineteen-eighty-something,
In the world that I grew up in.
Skatin' rinks and black Trans-Ams.
Big hair and parachute pants.
An' lookin' back now I can see me.
Oh man, did I look cheesy.
I wouldn't trade those days for nothin':
Oh, it was nineteen-eighty-something.
Nineteen-seventy-something.
Oh, it was nineteen something.

Wow, we have something in common, Mike. Same for me but it was finding my husband at the end of the decade. SO wonderful, hm?

I tend to categorize areas of my life by the video games, movies, and anime I was into at the time. (I don't get out much), so many soundtracks are important to me.
Chrono Trigger makes me think of the 7th grade, and how easy life was then, Final Fantasy VII makes me think of marching band and getting reamed for not paying attention on a daily basis, Gladiator's soundtrack makes me think of my first summer job and saying goodbye to a good friend who had to move, Final Fantasy IX makes me think of that last marching season and working at Pike's family nursery, and Eva makes me think about that first semester of college when I didn't quite know what to do with myself.

Did it look anything like the Arnie movie
Commando (especially that mall) and some of the other more "odd ball" 80's movies back then?

How else do you want me to describe it?
There's neon everywhere, from the lights, the clothes, the hair, almost everything is neon colors!
And all the cool people have spikey hair. Really spikey hair. Goku waking up on the wrong side of bed spikey hair.
Hm...what else, what else...
I'd have to go watch Bill & Ted again to get more...
