If you knew me in person you might be surprised to hear me say such a thing. But darnit if little kids are'nt amazing. Ive become quite attached to my "niece" and I find watching her develop and learn to be both fascinating and rewarding.

On Saturday I was playing a game of "kitchen monster" with her. This is a game where I squat down and chase her around the island in the kitchen. If Im quick enough I grab her tummy and give her a few tickles before I let go. It is so much fun to watch her squeal and giggle.

Now, here is the really good part. She kept puckering her face at me. I though she was just making faces, and when I puckered my face back at her, to my surprise she charged me and planted a kiss on my chin. I didnt expect that all and thats got to be the stuff parents live for. She is only 13 months, I know one day she will be too old for "kitchen monster" but I will cherish the time I have.

There's nothing like those spontaneous kisses when you don;t expect them. Remember those moments because yiou will have to hold on to them when 10 years down the road she's bitching about going out on a date or soemthing like that.

Tickling is BIG among young kids and my daughter loves it when I tickle her belly. She has such laughing fits that it sometimes scares me how loud she laughs.

But above that are the observations some kids make that just make you blink and think to yourself "she noticed that?!"

Cool, sounds fun.

I've got 4 cousins (all in 1 family, all under 4), I've watched them all grow up, they're much more fun when they're younger.

Little kids are so much fun to be around with, but to quote from the Rosanne show; Remember how proud we were when she first learned to talk?

She somehow made the connection that dropping and object requires an "uh-oh". Nobody taught her to say "uh-oh" so she must have picked it up. Although, she does also say it at random. She likes to take my cell phone and drop it on the carpet then go "uh-oh!"

The other wonderful thing is when Im feeding her Cheerios, about every 10th Cheerio or so, she stops and feeds me a Cheerio. Its really cute, unless it happens to be a Cheerio she just pulled out of her checks.

heh I spent most of this weekend with my best friend's 10 month old daughter, and she is the cutest thing on the face of the planet.

We kind of played catch - it's so funny because she figured out the pick up the ball part, but then she just drops it and then looks at me. Cracks me up. She knows the pick up the ball and release it part, just not the actual throwing/rolling part.

She also loves peek-a-boo, and squeals delightfully at every boo.

Yeah, baby time rocks.

My neice has matured into an eight year old "Elemental Force" grade Tomboy...

I'm thinking partially to get back at my sister, would a soccer ball, & Net be a good birthday/christmas gift for such a force of nature?

Actually, he was a bit older. Twas a soccer ball. Must've been moving at least 1e22 mph. Any slower and it would've reflected off my nuts of steel.

More on-topic my opinion may be biased since I don't have little kids over very often, if at all. Too many booby traps strewn about the house; parents call it a "bad influence", but I think they just haven't experienced the wonders of trying to survive unsupervised for 10 hours in a death laden evironment.

If you are getting back at your sister just get the soccer ball and mention to your niece that she can make the wall of the house the goal so they don't have to chase the ball each time they score.

Get her some shin guards too.

Ah, prompts me to ask: How old are you?

The other night my niece was at the dinner table with us watching us eat and was trying to emulate the motions. She even made grabs for my grandmother's fork. Looked like she was ready to open her mouth for incoming too.

And it looks like she really, really wants to walk and skip crawling entirely.

Not bad it took her mommy and daddy many hours of work on nasty viruses to do that much damage...

I think I have problems with children, it just takes alot out of me when my sister comes to visit and brings her children, I dunno how they manage it, I'm exhausted after a few hours, I don't think I could ever have kids of my own, I'd go insane.

One of my teachers bought in their daughter (I think she was around 9-20 months old) and she was pretty cute. We taught her a couple new words such as "vodka" "truck" and several nicknames of students in the class. And now every time she does something wrong (like drop something) she says "bugger" and she even told the other kids she knows.

Generally that kicks in at 3-4. Then I generally can' stand people till they hit 12-14.
