Let me just run down a quick list of the fantastico things he did:
1) Played some brilliant blues guitar solos that were so amazing my mouth was literally hanging open at one point in the concert. And I'm a professionally trained musician, so that's hard to do.
2) He played about five new songs of his, all of which I enjoyed greatly.
3) He played two of my three most favourite songs by him, one of which (3x5) had the most gorgeous piano intro to it. (And for all you music theory dorks out there, the piano intro was--I think--alternating between 5/8 and 7/8 and then the drumset put a light rock beat in 4/4 over that, and then the bass and backup guitar came in, and they only lined up with the piano every once in a while and it was SOOOOO COOOOOOOOOL--that is so fucking hard to do and it sounded unbelievable!!)
4) Some girlies in the front were waving to him, and one of them had a disposable camera in her hand. He leaned over, took the camera from her, took some pictures of the audience for her from his point of view, and then held the camera at an arm's length out and took a couple pictures of himself while he was in the middle of singing one of the songs. Then he handed her the camera back.
5) He made jokes in the middle of some of his songs, including a really funny impersonation of Justin Timberlake's latest song.
6) His music just plain kicked ass. He sounds great live, talked a little bit, but mostly he (and his band) just played excellent music.
I commented to a friend about how impressed I was with the concert, and specifically with his incredibly skills doing blues solos, and she said that he was a child prodigy at blues guitar. I hadn't known that, but it would certainly explain the level of ease with which he composed those intricate solo lines. Simply gorgeous. I can't wait until his next album comes out.
That is all. I just wanted to say all that for the benefit of anyone who thinks he's a talentless-pop-nothing. 'Cause he's not. The end. *bows*
