What I look for in music is something that's not overly repititive. My big beef with a lot of rap is it all sounds the same. Dance music is similar, in that most songs sound like one guitar riff played over and over and over and over...I do like some classical (Verdi, Holst), some country (early Garth Brooks, a couple Toby Keith, some Willie Nelson, and that Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffet one ). I like "folk" music (Gordon Lightfoot), and whatever Jimmy Buffet qualifies as. Some hard rock/metal is OK (Metallica, a little AC/DC). Punk I can take or leave (No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom" is the only punk I own). Satana I like, usually.
The one album I absolutely would NOT give up is "Beethoven's Last Night," by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A close second right now is "Fallen," by Evanescence, but it's not quite as good.

BattleTech for SilCoreStanley Hauerwas wrote:[W]hy is it that no one is angry at the inequality of income in this country? I mean, the inequality of income is unbelievable. Unbelievable. Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.
Metal
the most musically complex genre of music, weaving the composition and art of classical music with the power and emotion of 1000's of years of untapped primal instinct. It gave a voice to that unexplainable feral connection that lies within the deep recesses of every man, the angst, the darkness, the power, the emotion. The genre of music is probably the most flexible and maleable, from the twisted and dark angst of black metal to the pounding upbeat melody of power metal to the soaring composition of progressive metal, i dont think the genre can really be summed up in one explaination, not only because it means different things to different people, but because any given two metalheads may be describing totally different styles of metal.
What does it mean to me? Well, i think, for most fans, you have to be drawn to the sound firstly. You either live and breathe heavy metal or you dont, and those who dont never will. There is something undeniably appealing about the sound of a crashing guitar riff overlayed over the pounding of a drum kit while a long-haired man addorned in black and leather sings about anguish and victory to thousands of fist-pumping followers, while another guitarists makes his instrument scream and sing on a solo. There is an undeniably religious overtone to metal that creates a real sense of brotherhood and community amongst the followers, and for many, in taps into the whole warrior-spirit left over from our primal days that has been long since forgotten in our button-down, tax paying, office-working mundane world.
Add to the fact that on an artistic and musical level, it is the most sophisticated genre of music i have every seen, having sampled everything from rap to jazz to classical. This is a singnificant draw to me as well. I am a fan of classical music, being somewhat of an artist myself, and as far as i am concerned, metal is symphony. Violins and chellos and trumpets are replaced with electric and bass guitars and synthesizers. I wish many would acknowledge the artistic side of metal, but when the majority of people only experience it through either mundane garabage such as Linkin Park and Mudvayne, bands i would not even consider to be metal, or through distorted public perception of extreme cases of embarrassing misunderstandings that concvince the public that all metal bands are nothing but blood-drinking, satan-worshipping, no-talent pot heads whose screeches and out of tune guitars barely even qualify as music, its easy to see why it is the forgotten genre of music, despit being one of the most popular. no matter though, metal belongs in the underground.
Fav metal genre: probably classic/NWOBHM, Traditional metal and Power metal. I love progressive metal as well but there just isnt enough bands to really qualify as a significant interest.
Fav bands: Iron Maiden, Manowar and Judas Priest--the Triple Crown of heavy metal. I could list dozens of other fav bands of mine, ranging in styles from thrash to death to power metal, anywhere from the early 70's to present, but i rank those three bands above all else.
