Favorite Songs in General

Post by Master of Ossus »

Going off of the other topic, what are the best songs ever recorded/written?

My favorite song in terms of lyrics is without a doubt "American Pie," by Don McLean.

I don't even know what my favorite song, musically, is. There are so many great songs that all have a chance, but I'd be interested to hear some of your favorites. I also don't want to make a set number that no one can violate, so post as many as you feel like.

Hmmm... For movie music I might have to say Across the Stars. I think its even better than the music from the original trilogy, which is a statement of how good I think it really is. Honorable mentions go to all music from the original trilogy and Isildur's theme from Fellowship.

Classical music: I can buy Ode to Joy, pretty easily. Honorable mentions for Moonlight Sonata (okay, so I'm not very original), and Wagner.

I'd have to say one of them is "Voices" from Macross Plus, Accoustic version. Performed by Akino Arai and composed by Yokko Kano.

Anime
Hiru no Tsuki, which is a theme song for Outlaw Star
Yoko Kanno Jupiter Jazz from Cowboy Bebop

Classical
Schiller Ode to Joy

-And "Dance (Duel?) of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet.

Television
Deep Space Nine Season 1 theme

-Theme from Miami Vice.

Movie
Star Wars (naturally ;)) and Lord of the Rings

I like many forms of music, with the exception of the following:

Country produced after 1980.
Hip-hop, rap or "R&B" produced after about 1998.
Christian music in any form.
99.8% of pop music produced after about 1995.
Most of "alternative" rock produced after 1998.

What I do like . . . which produces many of my favorites:

311.
The music from Cowboy Bebop . . . that's some seriously cool stuff.
Hard rock from the '70s.

A couple of current favorites:

"Do you feel like we do" -- Peter Frampton.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" -- Queen

And movie soundtracks . . . definitely Star Wars.

Right now my favorite song is Bleeding Me by Metallica.

I also have a soft spot for Working Man by Rush. I use a short bit of it
as my computer's start up music. It must be because I love my job. :P

Aerosmith "Sweet Emotion" A kick ass rock classic. Hard to top.

Billy Joel "Piano Man". Now that's an excellent song for drinking.

Metallica "No Leaf Clover" I love the combination of a symphony and one of the best heavy metal bands ever. P
