Marijuana second hand smoke
Hey guys, if anyone knows the answer to this can you please tell me? Can second hand pot smoke (for example sitting at a poker game where two of the players take a few hits from a pipe) cause a positive test? I looked a bit on the net, and the answer seems to be a resounding "no," but I am still a little concerned. Anyone have any experience here? Can you help put my fears to rest?

Re: Marijuana second hand smoke
Depends on how sensitive the drug test is and how long the theoretical individual spent in the presence of the theoretical pot smokers (insofar as not reporting marijuana usage makes one an accessory to a crime and thus all discussions of marijuana must be strictly theoretical within the United StatesSuperman wrote:Hey guys, if anyone knows the answer to this can you please tell me? But anyway, if one spends enough time in the presence of second-hand marijuana smoke, then there is a chance that one could get a positive hit on a drug test.

Yeah I know with hippie parents Alex, Andrew and I were SOOOO fucking nervous when we had to take our first drug tests...
Needless to say living with my mom will not cause you to fail a drug test.
Which is bad...

Hmm.. I don't know about that, but I have heard that those that get contact highs can be tested positive for THC in their system, but what I have also heard is that the amount that is in a usual contact high is not enough to determine someone as a user, but that's it.Superman wrote:LOL I just read that the only smoke that actually contains the THC is the smoke that has not entered the lungs. It also said that "extreme" second hand exposore would cause the positive test (like being in a non ventilated car with a bunch of smokers).

I know for a fact (first hand and second hand experience) that one can get stoned from second hand smoke, so I'd say yes, you would probably test positive, becaue the drug is there.

Like ib, I know for a fact that you can get high off of second-hand smoke, so I don't see why you wouldn't turn up positive.
In fact, one time my friend got high off his ass without ever taking a puff. He just played computer games for about 12 hours in a small dorm room accompanied by several other people, all of whom were toking up the entire time.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

That's the smoke from the air that hasn't been inhailed though...
yes when the room looks like a Cheech and Chong movie or the Set of a Bob Marley video you are getting fucked up...
however just living with parents that smoke frequently will not usually cause you to fail,

yes, you can get high off of second-hand marijuanna smoke, hence hot-boxing. Its nothing as serious as direct inhalation, but you will notice a small buzz, depending on duration of contact and potency of the marijuana. Would probably show up on a test, even if it is very small amounts.

According to NORML, passive exposure to marijuana smoke will NOT cause a positive result on a drug test that uses the standard cutoff of 50 nanograms/milliliter. You won't fail a drug test if any amount of THC (or, more specifically, THC breakdown products) shows up in your urine. It's possible that passive exposure might cause a positive result on a 25 ng/ml test, but those are rare.

NORML's page on the subject. If you're still nervous, read the material on spoofing a urine test. In your case, you wouldn't be doing anything "wrong" because you're trying to prevent a false positive, not dodge a genuine positive result (I'll leave the ethical issues of urine testing for another time).
