The fast food industry

So my little brother just got a job at McDonald's. You know what's funny about this? This fucking job (where you can literally be retarded and excel) has a dress code. They're paying him 6.25 per hour and they expect him to wear leather shoes. He's now working behind the counter wearing the leather shoes he wore for his prom because he doesn't have the money to go buy the required shoes.

And he got reprimanded for a eating a chicken McNugget out by the dumpster. He took the food that wasn't going to be used out to the dumpster at the end of the night, ate a McNugget and got written up. God forbid you eat something that is going to be thrown away. Jee McDonald's, do you think this might have something to do with your rediculously high rate of turnover? Could this be why you go through employees like a people go through doobies at Foghat concerts? Could this be why working at McDonald's is seen as one step above living on welfare? Screw you, McDonald's!

It says "out BY the dumpster."

And I say lucky bastard.. at least he CAN get a job at McDonald's.. fucking economy.

As per getting written up.. well.. I dunno. I've seen people get written up for eating popcorn after closing.. but then again, when on a loss of privileges..

HAHA No no, he was talking perfectly good food out to the dumpster because the store was about to close. It goes into the trash. He was trying to eat it instead of throwing it away.

Off-topic, but my dad used to work at mcdonalds.... I once saw him climbing a flag pole for some reason or other, he later said something about the rope getting stuck...

Anyway, from what I remember of my dad working there (I was like 5 years old when he was fired, so I may not remember all of it), the place sucks, as a general rule. Some company policies are incredibly stupid, i think. BUT, if you havea good manager, then I guess it could be okay. Beats being jobless, if only just by a little bit...

The leather shoe bit may be a safety issue. Leather's a little more resistant to grease and heat if he'd accidentally spill some hot oil.

That being said, I'd take my first paycheck and hit a shoe store and get some black service shoes that have the little green 'SR USA' tag sewn on.

SR=Slip Resistant. USA=Made in the USA.
Postal approved service shoes.

Anything good enough for mailmen to wear is good enough for me.

Actually, I'm advising him to get another job. Most of the retarded fast food employees don't seem to realize that there are higher paying or less stressful jobs out there...

I recall reading somewhere (maybe it was "No Logo" by Naomi Klein) that fast food joints generally pay their employees as little as they can get away with...

Totally true. They pay them what they legally HAVE TO pay them. I'm sure they would pay less if they could.

If not ,you could not get a "Double Cheeseburger" for $1.00

People want cheap food. Thats what it takes to get it.. cheap labor

Interesting, most of the fast food jobs out here are held by Mexicans. Its been years since American teens held fast food jobs around here, at least at places like McDonalds. Its funny, cause my first job was in fast food.

The leather shoes thing is a safety issue.

Behind the counter it's all tiled floors and you'd be surprised at the washing up that needs to be done. That stuff spills easily, and people have knives and the like for cutting the veg...etc...

Well, no fucking shit. Most people who work at McDonald's don't have the skills necessary to earn a higher wage (that's why they work at McDonalds).

McDonalds managers are always assholes though. its a chain, their manager is an asshole so all through their employment they get hardened into the leather shoe wearing prison wardens they end up as. A McDonalds by my old house used to leave buns out and reuse them, use old cheese, and the building was infested with rats and always full of flies. The health inspector certainly wouldn't of gone for any of that, but considering the area it was located, im sure the health inspector wouldn't of gone near it either.

Superman seems to be forgetting the basic requirements of fast food. Cheap food cheap labour Massive profits. The ethos of McDonalds is that if it's packaged well and doesn't make the customer sick they'll come back.

Funny thing about FF,when employees of a McD in Montreal succeeded in being unionised,it did`nt took long before the owner closed his McD franchise.

Tell me about it. Even the lowest level jobs are not highering, here at least not in any appreciable numbers. HOWEVER! I did notice one thing, there are still low level entry level jobs to be found in the more affluent neighborhoods. And they like to hire people that speak English.

Hmm. My local Barnes and Noble is looking to hire a manager, requires experience.

I frankly don't see what the problem is with McDonald's pay. Almost everybody in this nation has the skills to do that job, so it's not like you're gonna get paid extra because you have a special skill. Working at McDonald's provides a good oppertunity for people who need part time work, temporary work, or simply a peice for their resume for when they are ready to move up. Sure the pay may suck, but most people in this world make far far less then that of McDonald's employees. If someone doesn't like working there, they are free to quit.

True, jobs like fast food should be viewed as an "entry-level" job. A first step in many. If anyone can do your job after a few days of training it isnt going to pay well.

Something like one-eighth of the workforce has been a McDonald's employee at some point.

Its just like Wal-mart . Wal-mart needs to hire 1 million people a year to replace turnover and open new stores... Cheap labor=turnover
