KLI Under Attack!

In last week's
News Journal, there was an article highlighting the Klingon Language Institute's local meeting. Sadly, I can't find the actual article - but that's not what is important here. In today's Letters to the Editor section someone had to mouth off and use the "get a life" mantra. I figure there's a good retort to be made, but I'm not sure what that might entail. Anyone care to take a crack?

Forget Klingon talk and get a real life
I recently read a letter in which the letter writer chastised The News Journal for it's so called "derisive" treatment of the Klingon Language Institute. The author tried to hide his criticisms under the umbrella of multiculturalism, which I thought was laughable. I would like to ask that letter writer how he thinks a story about adults who actually spend time studying a fictitious language inspired by a bad 1960s TV show should be portrayed. For these people, I have three pieces of advice.
1) Grow up. Star Trek is only a TV.show and in the big picture of life it just barely makes the "insignificant" file.
2) Move out of your parents' house.
3) If you are going to study a language, study one slightly more useful, like Sanskrit or Esperanto.

So insignificant that basically every household in America knows the name Kirk and the word Star Trek?
2) Move out of your parents' house.
Unlike yourself, perhaps?

What an idiot. Sanskrit? Useful? Give me a break, you sad excuse of a human being. We'll take you seriously when you replace those two with Japanese or German.

An idiot.

I'm sure we can find multiple things in Tobe Hitchens' life that would qualify as wastes of time. Watching television anyone?

I peg the author as a faux-iconoclastic 15-year-old, coping with severe sexual frustration, ostrication from society as a whole and, quite possibly, nervous incontinence.
Gosh, impossibly blind Ad Hominem attacks are actually quite fun!

Learning Klingon is pretty sad, though.

Learning Klingon isn't always sad, there are actually some uses for it. Did you know there are some people in insane asylums who ONLY speak klingon and none of them have interpreters? If you know Klingon fluently and you're sane, you could get a job in one of those places easily.

Bleh.
What can one say? Practically inventing the Klingon, teaching it and actually using it might be very sad..so what? What that shit dribbler should have asked is how and why is it that you invent a whole new language that (some) people actually use in everyday life?
Blindly spouting that such people are losers etc, is not a good indication of that persons intellect.

Perhaps the sd.netters in the area could pay him a visit?

I think he was referring to the fact that tlhingan'Hol is almost unpronouncable - only H.P. Lovecraft could possibly have devised a more bizarre language... or maybe me - when I've finished "The Wormhole War" and makes a Xril-English dictionary. (For those who don't have read TWW, a species known as the Xril featured in the story speak a language which I've designed to be unintelligible and unpronounceable.)

Don't hold me to this, but I think that Klingon might be one the most successful artificially created languages in history. It has to be doing better than Esperanto....

This is actually a disgruntled Tolkeinite who is mad that more people know Klingonese than the Elven language.

Hmm...I think I have a dictionary somewhere around the house. I'll check that out when I get home over the weekend.
