MTV to Remake 'Evil Dead' Trilogy
Thu August 28, 2003 01:02 AM ET
By Herman Frederickson
In an effort to draw older viewers, especially those who don't affiliate with mainstream media and popular culture, executives at MTV have greenlighted a remake of the cult classic 'Evil Dead' movie trilogy, which featured Bruce Campbell's ongoing struggle against the undead, and the mystical and evil Necronomicon.
"We're very excited about introducing these films to a younger audience while at the same time reintroducing them in a new and exciting light to older viewers." said MTV programming director Rick Elseman. "Hopefully this will show some of our former viewers that we at MTV respect thier non-mainstream views of entertainment and that we still welcome them to view our fine station."
Slated to appear in the first series include several entertainment stars such as rap-star and actor Usher, former member of N'Sync Lance Bass, and MTV's own Carson Daly will play the role of main character "Ash." Sam Raimi, who directed this series along with the 2002 blockbuster hit 'Spider Man', was unavailiable for comment at this time.
The films will be condensed into one hour each and will be aired early in 2004. The remakes come as part of MTV's plan to remake an entire line of series of non-mainstream entertainment in order to attract a larger viewership. Talks are already in progress between MTV's parent company Viacom and Bandai of America for the live action rights to the animated series "Cowboy Bebop".

If they actually manage to get rights for a live-action Bebop, things will not go well.

This is a joke right? You just can't have Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell.

"Hopefully this will show some of our former viewers that we at MTV...
...have no fucking clue that fucking up and pissing around with a cult classic will piss-off and alienate the viewership we're tyring to impress."
Elseman then proceeded to defecate on the interviewer's shoes, while repeatedly commenting on how "trendy" the shoes would be after said act.

I've been saying for some time now that Hollywood was out of ideas. I'm saddened by just how right I am. Someday, perhaps not in the too distant future, there will be talks about a remake of Leonard Part VI or Ghost Dad or Manos: Hands of Fate.
Rock bottom? Oh no, they're already drilling.

KILL IT KILL IT NOW!
Lance Bass and Carson Daley as Ash???? Ill be rooting for the Army of Darkness.
Seriously, I would be VERY surprised if this were true, and if it was, I doubt it will ever get made...
Anyone else amused that they are reducing the time to an hour each, I guess they know they can’t keep their audiences attention for more then an hour...

Army of Darkness was awesome, and hilarious too.
And MTV dares try to redo it with Usher?
N Sync members!!!?? CARSON DALEY!!??!?!?! AS ASH!!!!????
I hereby proclaim that the executives of MTV have truly lost their sense of what's good and what's bad.
And a live-action version of Cowboy Bebop done by Viacom? No. Way.
They'll most likely replace the characters with a pop-starish cast, and try to insert teen angst into it all.
Someone should REALLY start a petition!!

I'm guessing its going to suck, and look like one of those really cheesy-bad Hollywood horror movies (as apposed to the cheesy-goodness of evil dead).... basically, they'll probably try to remake evil dead to look like army of darkness, with all its one-liners and humorous death scenes, and completely miss why the ‘older viewers’ like the original.

This is, quite simply, too stupid to be real.
I'll believe it when I see it.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
NONONONONONO!
FUCKMTVFUCKMTVFUCKMTVMTVISTHEENEMYITMUSTDIE....
Okay deep breath....
god this better be a fucking joke. This is truely fucking sad. First Dawn of the Dead gets remade as a PG-13 film and now this. MTV is the worst fucking network in the world to make anything, they already screwed around with the music industry enough.
It really shows how unoriginal and shallow the world is when they're remaking films that arent even ten years old--I mean Army of Darkness came out in 1993 right? Christ!
Someone should tell MTV to go fuck themselves. I swear if i see any token-black rapper appearances by Coolio or Ice-T or any dumb MTV fucker in this film im going to flip--unless of course they get gratuitously dismembered.

I don't have much to say - but if the Evil Dead remake and ends up overshadowing the original, that will be sad....
As for the live-action Cowboy Bebop - some things are better left animated...

Boomstix? Pshaw.
*hands everyone present a Rocket Launcher, a Railgun, and enough ammo for each man to carry the fight to the Enemy for five days. Then hands the Mods BFGs and enough ammo to paint the Countryside red with blood*
Much better. DEATH TO LIVE-ACTION CB!!

Anyone remember when MTV was non-mainstream form of entertainment? Now they're lurching about like one of the fucking zombies from the movie looking to find a way to tap into an audience that is ironically too cool for MTV now.
Shit maybe if they started playing music videoes agan instead of the drek they play now people might start watching again. UGH.
