What'd you think of Darren Aronofsky's first major movie, Pi?
We just watched it at our school Independent Film Discussion Group.

Boring as watching paint dry.

Mindbendingly fucked up, as is Requiem for a Dream.
If you want a real good mindfuck, go see Perfect Blue.

fantastic movie. I consider it far superior to Requiem for a Dream.
Great acting and writing and Arofonsky's directing is spot on. I love the raw, gritty feel that the 16mm black and white photography provides, perfectly reflecting the protagonists dark and unstable state of mind. Lots of photography tricks of his has since been copied ad nauseum so some of it seems derivative (moreso in Requiem, but some in Pi) but i still think its a great film. I dont see how anyone could call it boring. Offbeat, weird, not for some tastes, but its always interesting, and keeping an audience interested is quite an accomplishment these days (but then people that watch independant films often have maturer and more patient tastes).

I liked it. Not a big film critic, I'm not going to go so far as to say that it could have been better (what movie couldn't have been?).. But I will say that some parts of it were simply.... annoying. By the end of it, I grew weary of the plot, and there was no real character development, to me. I mean, you have stock market vs. Jews vs. the guy with the number. And that's pretty much it. Overall, I think it was very well done, and I liked it greatly, and very mind-bending and thought-provoking, certainly one of my favorites.
