WWI Gas Attacks
I'm watching Paths to Glory and I noticed that even though they mention gas attacks we don't see any in the movie and its not the first WWI movie that doesn't have gas attacks. I had some views of WWI that gas attacks were frequent and nightmarish. Anyone have any info on the frequency and effectiveness of gas attacks.

Just a tidbit you might find interesting. In the 1980's I received an NBC Warfare Journal in the mail. Not sure how I got on the mailing list, but anyway they had an article about the persistance of chemical weapons. There was a story about a farmer someone in France I think. He cut down a tree on his property and sat on the stump. His but blistered from the agents still inside the tree. ( This was in the 70's I think. ) Dunno if its urban rumor or not. Just thought it was interesting.
As for chemical attacks, they where horrible. Imagine having to watch a fellow soldier die , choking on his own blood and bits of lung because he was not fast enough to put on the mask.
