I was IP banned for several hours, so I emailed Mike and the problem has [obviously] now been fixed. Does anyone know why this happened? I'm not very technical so I don't quite understand what happened...

Ali, you probably just got caught when one of our other Trolls got banned. Collatoral damage as it were.

It might have been from Yosemite Bear's exile ban.

You have a dynamic IP address that stumbled onto one of the several similar banned addresses.
