How many people here are stuck for one reason or another in a place you absoloutely hate? Where is it?

While growing up, I had to live in a place called Yuba City, California. If you look at most almanacs it is actually listed as the worst place to live in the United States (no joke). It definately lived up to its reputation. The funny thing was that 95% of the locals didn't even realize how bad it was. Many of my old friends still live there today working 6 dollar per hour jobs...

OOH, ME ME ME ME ME!!!

I grew up in a rich town called Boca Raton. While having one of the crappiest names out there (I mean, Rat's Mouth?!? C'mon!) It's full of rich asses and old people, and both are about as shitty as you can possibly get. That's one of the main reasons I left for UCF, to get away from that hellhole (Well, that, and UCF is one of the best Aerospace Engineering schools out there, I mean, Lockheed Martin lets Freshmen intern! Freshmen!)

I lived in Honolulu for four years. Yeah, Hawaii is great to visit, but many of the locals there (Especially the young ones) Regard ANYone Not Hawaiian, Samoan, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, or korean as Invaders and LOOK for reasons to kick your ass. That's not a joke, either. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the experience of living in a really DIFFERENT place, but fuck Hawaii. I hope it sinks into the ocean.

Killarney Vale, I lived there for a year, I hated it, the neighborhood I lived in was full of half wits, and the kind of poeple who grow up to be unemployed bums.

Well, I did go to this place called Chardok, I'm wondering if Chardok's named after that hellhole...

Nope, I've lived in San Antonio all my life, and I consider it one of the best cities of it's size in the world.

It will eventually, well at least the existing islands will, a new one is already forming though thousands of years from reaching the surface. As for me, I've basically lived in the same place my whole life and I like it pretty well.

Only reason I hated it was for the isolation.

I had no problems with my old hometown, and the new one I'm at is fine, except for the fact that just about everything else is several miles away. And there's lots of forest and farmland. I never knew there was forest and farmland in New Jersey before. I thought it was all swampland and urban sprawl.

Tempe is pretty good, but theres no good places to run. I liked Albany, OR more.

Hate is probably the wrong word, but I was unhappy living on what we call the Peninsula. I was too far from friends, the area is too crowded and lots of annoying old people. The kind of old people that think they are something special just cause they bought their house when it was cheap and now its worth a million.

for four years I've lived in Piscataway, NJ. It is the middle of no where but I didn't realize what a crappy place to live at until years later and I thought about it considering that I was real young back when I lived there.

It actually amazes me, that a state as small as NJ can have rural areas or places that are in the middle of nowhere. Im just too used to the vast sizes of the Western states.

One of these days when I have some money Im gonna try and visit the east coast States. Ive heard you can get good cheese pizza and french dip sandwhiches on the East Coast.

Sparta, New Jersey: the town with the haughty, holier-than-thou attitude of Princeton, but without all that "industry" or "commerce" baggage! As a result, property taxes are through the roof, ensuring that only the cream of the crop come to live in this idyllic little burg (of 19,000). Yes, Sparta has it all! Send your child to overcrowded schools! Sit in the terrible traffic! Visit the town's overpriced (and only) supermarket! Frolick with white-collar racists and bigots as far as the eye can see! That's right! Sparta, New Jersey: where it doesn't matter where you come from, so long as you're a white Christian!

I lived there for 18 years of my life. Now that I'm in my third year of college, I understand everything that's wrong with that dainty little shithole (I had inklings around 17 or so), and absolutely despise it. So forceful were its indoctrinating effects that I really didn't shed my theism until about six months into my freshman year, or about 2 years ago. And I went to public school! Luckily, I never took part in the racism and bigotry all around me, so I can consider myself 'clean' in that regard.

As a SE Pennsylvanian, I've grown up mocking Jersey as much as possible. But as I meet more people from NJ at school and such, and travel in some of the wilderness areas there and such, I'm finding it quite a nice place really.

Åkarp, a suburb situated on the tenebrous border between Malmö and Lund. That's where I grew up. And, aside from our house and the houses of my friends, there was absolutely nothing good about it.

The people were either hicks or assholes. The school was horrible, combining regular bullying with three-monkey teachers and the worst architecture ever seen. The village's layout was that of the stereotypical suburbian nightmare - monotonous rows of houses that stretched into infinity, broken up by the occasional carefully domesticated park where people could walk their dogs. There was one pizzeria, and three small shops where people could buy milk and eggs.

God I hated that place.

Belle Chasse. Peaceful, out-of-the-way, idyllic, etc etc etc. Except it was TOO outta the way, there were no open jobs, and all the people were hardline racists! In fact they had this homegrown racist group called NAAWP (think childish tit-for-tat counterpoint to NAACP. Fucking Ku Klux Klowns...). I spent six years in that hellhole, four under the sights of the local KKKlown gestapo (more like buncha 17-yo pig-faced thugs who can't get a girl to date them to save their lives!) who would occasionally take potshots at me with their pellet guns. At least the d00ds at the nearest trailer park had only four things on their minds: Weed, Beer, Cars, and Girls in no particular order, so they didn't mess with me at all...

Anyways, it was all but a prison simply due to its sheer remoteness from the rest of the West Bank and no income potential. Worse: I was too stupid to realize once I hit 18 I could pack up my stuff and head up to the City any time I wanted, but it took my dad's girlfriend damn near killing me on New Years Eve Eve in 2k1 (Water Under The Bridge btw) to convince me to finally leave. Honestly, if I hadn't left then, I probly wouldn'a met my hubby Dave, so I think it was a fair trade...

Keighley, Yorkshire, UK

Lived there for a few years. The town hobby was fighting. Everywhere there were continual punchings, batterings and assorted fillings-in, day or night, they didn't care. You'd get set upon by 12 year old kids in the street, and I was a large and healthy adult male at the time. Everyone was scrapping, women (scratch!, claw!), pensioners (walking stick - whack!), guys still in plaster from the last rumble (clonk!), dogs (yap! snap!)

I remember one middle-aged married-with-family bloke explaining to me in absolute seriousness how he "liked a quite night" and "doesn't like all this scrapping" but "someone spilled me pint and you just have to kick off them don't you?"

One lunchtime I'm driving down the main street and there's a huge great traffic jam. Hopping out of my motor determined the cause, half-a-dozen blokes had decided to have a set-to in the middle of the high street, and the traffic had stopped to watch and cheer them on. Because of the obstruction the constabulary turned out - they didn't generally bother too much about fighting - and proceeded to batter all and sundry with their truncheons.

The clubs in Keighley were just unreal. Huge standing armies of gigantic skinhead doormen were deployed, even at one time German Shepherds. They used to hang the unconscious human debris over the rails of the fire escapes, row upon row of them. It was your bad luck if they ran out of fire escape space when it was your turn to be "escorted from the premises" because then they'd just throw you over the rail. Guys died that way.

I survived my residence there simply because I lived at the top of a large and steep hill overlooking the arena (sorry, town centre) and most of the combatants preferred not to waste their energy on the arduous climb, so the heaving tide of brawling bodies just lapped at the end of my street.

I have a "this place is kind of cool / this place is a shit hole" relationship with Tucson. I'm starting to lean towards this place is a shit hole unless you are just visiting or you're rich enough to live out in the stix and only come into when you have to and at your convienence.

Chardok is actually the name of the nastiest, most horrid, filth-ridden bastardified, monster-filled, impossible, death mill in the entire everquest world. My char name on SWG is Chardok (After the place) Di'Zok (After the brood of Di'zok, the nastiest clan of Sarnaks in EQ)
