Bad Durran! Stupid stupid stupid!

So I got an e-mail the other day, warning me that my car would be towed if I were to leave it in a certain lot during Gameday Weekend (I live in a dorm, on campus, and during game weekends people need parking spots). Thinking my car was in a safe lot, I ignore it. Gameday comes, I go, have a lot of fun, retire for the night and get hungry. I go to my car to drive to the local gas station and get a snack, only to find that the lot is empty and my car has been towed. I call the cops, wondering where my car is; they tell me the name and number (which does not even have an answering machine!) of the company that towed my car and neglect to inform me when the place will reopen. So now I get to go carless for an indeterminate amount of time and drop a couple weeks worth of spending money because of my stupidity. I'm pissed off.
Fuck you, UGA Parking Services.

Well, it was an honest mistake. Sounds kinda crappy. You do have to pay for a parking permit do you not? They should let dorm residents stay where they are.

I really fucking hated it at Hofstra when the lazy-ass resident students (quite a number of whom were a short walk from the academic side of campus) fucking drove over to get to their classes. I was really hoping that they'd institute a new law about commuter vs. resident parking, with all the necessary sticker adjustments, and tow the cocksuckers too lazy to walk the enclosed bridge over the turnpike to go to class, instead choosing to drive their $50,000 BMWs and pimped-out riceburners a tenth of a mile.
As a result, parking at Hofstra at 9am on a Monday was the most hellish experience of my tenure there. Fuck that. Commuters should get priority parking.
Sorry about the minor threadjack, but you touched a nerve. Do they thoroughly mark the lots and warn students ahead of time far enough? You might be able to bullshit them out of the fee.

Durran, at the risk of sounding unsympathetic, I'm ... unsympathetic. You received an explicit warning not to park in a certain area, and you parked there anyway. I don't see why you should be saying "Fuck you, UGA Parking Services" under these circumstances.

Well, in his defense, he didn't KNOW he was parked in the wrong lot.

So I'm curious. You can be removed from a University parking spot when you have a valid parking pass?

If it's reserved for other uses, I assume so.

Here, there is a hierarchy for parking. If you have a residential hall sticker, you can park in your designated residential lot anytime, in any general use lot from 4pm-7am, and in any event parking lot at any time.

Sure. Especially if it is policy to let people park there during games. It seems from his description there is a designated lot for the residents. He was not in it and got towed.

Frankly, thats retarded. Students should always have priority in university lots at any time.
Because, you know, they pay tens of thousands of dollars to go there and stuff.

Hey, I know it was my fault, I'm just pissed off.

Thing is, my permit gives my license to park in like 4 or 5 different lots, and I got them confused.

Is this the first time they've towed people? Have you ever heard of it happening to someone else?

Certainly not, though it's the first time it's happened to me. I do know a guy who got towed for different reasons a few years back, though.

USF usually doesn't tow. Instead, they'll lock your tires (putting a shoe on it?) if you rack up too many citations. Campus parking goes around with these Palm OS-based devices everywhere to check on things.

Got a big orange boot on my wheel once for parking in the Dean's space. I was barely in the building for 3 minutes.

Yeah, but not at UGA. I remember last year when I was still there there was a big stink that **dorm residents** had to move their cars out of the **dorm parking lots** so alumni could park there on gamedays.

Gotta have priorities for your students, right?

See, the university already has YOUR money, so you're not bringing in any more profit to them. So they fuck you (the student) over to make money off them (the VIPs).
