Crop Swastika

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police discovered a giant swastika trampled into a cornfield near Berlin but have not been able to figure out how the banned Nazi emblem got there, a spokeswoman said Monday.
A police team discovered the 230-foot Nazi cross on a routine helicopter flight earlier this month and alerted their colleagues on the ground.
"Once the police on the ground recognized the shape from video footage they consulted the farmer and trampled around the swastika until it was unrecognizable," said a police spokeswoman in Koenigs Wusterhausen, in the eastern state of Brandenburg.
Those displaying Nazi symbols or using the stiff-armed Hitler salute can face up to three years in prison in Germany.
There were no indications so far who was responsible or how they had entered the field so as only to leave traces along the lines of the swastika and none around it.
Brandenburg is part of the formerly communist east, where racist attacks are more common than in the west.
The hooks on the cross actually pointed in the opposite direction to those on the swastika used by Adolf Hitler's Nazi party but it was still being treated as an illegal symbol.
Last week, officials said the threat of neo-Nazi violence was escalating in Germany after police seized explosives and arrested several people suspected of planning an anti-Jewish bomb attack in Munich. Neo-Nazis from Brandenburg were among those arrested, German media said.
Obviously there's a neo-nazi contingent amongst the Grey Aliens.

If the crosses on the ends were pointed in the wrong directions, then isn't it supposed to be a Hindu sun symbol, and a blessing?

Well, it is still considered illegal here
Symbols that can be mistaken for Nazi symbols, are illegal.

Well well.. amazing what TV can teach you. I learned that from an old TV show about a reporter that kept running into X-files-type monsters... about 20 yrs before the Xfiles premiered
Dahak: I honestly can understand why German doesn't want any connection to the Nazi Party. It's a past I'm sure many Germans would prefer buried.

That's why Gavin McCloud had a recurring character on the X-Files.
And the version of the swastika the nazis used was very much a good luck symbol in the western world, though perhaps not the "blessing" of the Tibetan version. It was called the "lucky cross", and was used in advertising everything from citrus fruit from California to Coca-Cola.
There's an Art-Deco building in Wichita, KS. that has very prominant swastika tiles, and they're all the "nazi" version. It dates from the late 20s, IIRC. My one first hand account with this little tidbit o' trivia.

I once compiled a list of space alien archetypes in sci-fi along with other forumers. Funnily enough, one of the archetypes were the Space Nazis. Examples include the Taiidani (Homeworld), the Tau (Warhammer 40K), the Dominion (DS9), the Officians (Rocky Jones: Space Ranger) and others...

If I'm not mistaken, the Iron Cross was an award that predated Hitler.

If I'm not mistaken, the Iron Cross was an award that predated Hitler.
However, a lot of Neo-Nazis use the Iron Cross (or the Cross of St. George, as it's also known) in the same way as Communists use the Red Star.

It might be a Hindu symbol too, but I know its a japanese symbol called "manji" and if you see it on a building, it means its a temple.

I'm surprised no one ever suggested changing the tiling!

A couple tiles have been vandalised, and the building stood vacant for years. It's in a predominantly black neighborhood, too. Which makes it's mostly intact status a little curious.
But the architect is a nationally recognised art deco period artist, and the few buildings of his left in town are very highly thought of. He was
good, too. Without his name, Google is turning up crap. Wanted to share.
