Ok, right now, i want to get the russian sounding opera music that we often hear in the background in the various cold war submarine films we often get, in times of high tension or drama.

And similar powerful operatic styled things, i would like composers and song names, thanks.

Come to think of it, so would I. I've forgotten how much I enjoy this type of music...

A lot of that is written for the individual films, and is more related to communist era propaganda music than opera.

But I'd recommend Modest Mussorgsky fer good Russian music. Baba Yaga from his Pictures at an Exhibition may be a little more dramatic than the sonorous style stuff you mentioned, but it's a winner. :D
As is Pictures at an Exhibition in it's entirety.

Look for the Russian National Anthem, too. It's to the tune of the old U.S.S.R. anthem, with new words. It's what those film scores emulate.

Promenade from Pictures from an Exhibition is standard repertoire for arrogant trumpet players. It's a great show off piece.

The Hunt For Red October songs are sweet.
