Edit: Strep Throat in the Midwest

by Alan Bolte
Had a bit of a sore throat like two weeks ago, not a problem, went away quickly, but left the left side of my throat swollen. I kept suggesting to my mom that I see a doctor, but no dice. Then Thursday evening it got worse, I missed school Friday, and the strep swab came out negative.
So now I've missed having my first anniversary dinner with the avatar, my throat hurts so much that drinking water is excruciating, I have a monster headache, the inside of my ears hurt, and I have a fever over 100F.
And the worst part is, the doctor can't see me until Tuesday.

Tuesday? What kind of health plan do you have. If you have something serious then someone should see you right away. It is good that a strep culture came back negative, but who knows what else you might have.
Sore throats just suck.

That sucks and blows. There are few things that I hate having more than a sore throat.

--I feel ya man. Sorry to hear it. I had something similar the week before last, but not as bad.

Yah, sounds like everyone in my area is getting it. I seem not to be dealing with it as well as some. Ouchies. I wish I could stop dry-swallowing.

No kidding... got the same thing around here. Course, it doesn't help any that we've got that West Nile virus scare down here, too... [sighs]

Same thing happened to me, but I got healthy in a week. Make sure you stay warm, and don't move too much. And have a book or something around to stave off boredom.

Why would you need a book when you've got SD.Net? ;)

I couldn't sit up, and don't have a laptop. And my mom wouldn't let me so much as touch the computer.

EDIT: I read a 600 page Tom Clancy book in a day and a half.

I got sick with the same thing as well. I think the goverment spreds sicknesses so the country can build immunities to them so that we're not as vaulnerable to biological warfare of this type ... but then again, thats just a crazy theory isn't it ?

Don't be paranoid. Anyway, after all this time - and still seven hours away from my damned doctor's appointment - I'm not feeling quite so fatigued, and I can get more water and jello down than before.
Now tell me, I'm in Ohio, and I know a hell of a lot of people around here who have gotten some version of this bug in the last several weeks. How far has this thing spread?

Well I'm in Ohio too and I've got the exact same shit. A LOT of people I know are coming down with it, getting over it or suffering through it right now.

Here is how to get better. Find the biggest book by Gore Vidal you can find. Sit down in a chair and promise yourself you'll read it over and over again until you feel better. Start reading. Your body should make itself better in about twenty minutes just to avoid having to read any further.

Yesterday, I had a slightly dry throat. Today, I was sneezing all day, I have a slight headache, and my throat was dryer. If it keeps getting worse, I should feel like shit by the end of the week. I could take a Benadryl in the morning, but those make my drowsy, and I'd be spending the first several hours of class barely feigning sleep.

Looks like it passed through WV on its way to you. That's what had me on antibiotics for two weeks.

Hmm...Ohio's only one state over from me, and now I've got a bit of a sore throat along with some nasal congestion. Should I be worried?
