Glass Spider!?! I pity your soul, that's almost (though not quite) as bad as getting front row tickets to a Tin Machine tour, YEECH!

Caught him looking me in the eye while singing "Time", guess that won't be anything you have to worry about now, is it.

::STEAMS IN ANGER::

You lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky bum, or on the other hand he might have been looking over your sholder into that especially cute guy/gal's eyes behind you....

Oh, and three cookies if you can name what tour the Avatar is from.

They were all excellent, except for Glass Spider, and the Tin Machine tours, (sound + vision is debatable, but heavily favoured on the good side)

*Basks in evil* When someone looks you in the eye from twenty feet away, you know it. :wink:

And I'm guessing that avatar's from the Low and Heroes tour.

Can someone please explain to me the appeal of David Bowie? I never understood why he was so popular. Some of his tunes are kinda catchy (space oddity) and Ziggy Stardust has a nice riff to it, but beyond that i dont see anything interesting about his music. His stage showmanship was original in the 70's, thats one mark for him, but most of his music seems plain and dull and his flamboyant bi-sexuality is just plain silly. Not that his music is bad or anything, i just could never figure out why he is so revered. Too me it just seems like typically soft rock songs, with occasional commercial-progressive touches to them.

Maybe because he's one of the most influencial and copied people in popular music history?

I know how you feel. Flambouyant heterosexuality is silly, too.

You're good, real good, but you are not a Master of All which is Bowie!

So is Abba but that doesnt mean they're anything worth listening to. Seriously, what is it about the music that is so great? The only long-lasting influence i can see from Bowie is glam rock, and considering that glam rock was the absolute worst movement in music history outside of disco, that isnt something to be proud of.

I agree. Bands like Manowar at least take it with tongue in cheek though. Bowie's whole glam thing was just meant to shock; original showmanship i guess, but it just seems stupid to me.

Zombie, can you make an objective argument against Bowie, or does this boil down to you not thinking much of him. If it does, say "I don't like him. He bores me." And leave it at that.
Also, ABBA is hardly comparable in influence, longevity, or in being openly imitated.

meh. Its not that he bores me, i just dont see what the big deal is. 70's Progressive rock was done in much finer style by Rush and Genesis and Pink Floyd and i never found anything extraordinarily innovative about his music. He certainly seems to have inspired modern musicians, which goes back to his popularity, but again i never saw what the big deal was. His glam image was original but i always found that to be nothing more than a silly distraction (though i guess it fit the whole Ziggy Stardust theme at the time). I know a lot of girls found him sexy but i cant see why really, he looks like a gaunt skeleton nowadays. Not that I'm ragging on you or anything, i dont mean to bash a musician you admire, i just think his popularity and musicianship is grossly overrated.
