School bans game sites and anomyizers but not WCOTC site!

Post by MKSheppard »

Wheee, I tried to go check up on some threads by me on the COMBAT MISSION
forums, only to find that my mom's work computer at school had a
"For the Children" web blocker installed.

I did some tests:

ANYMONIZER sites are blocked too.

World Church of the Creator site isn't blocked.

Battlefront.com is blocked.

Gamespy.com is not blocked

combatmission.com is blocked

ak-47.net is not blocked

skalman.nu isn't blocked....

Damn fucking idiot IT techs at school...apparently
your website is OK as long as it doesn't have
COMBAT or BATTLE in the URL....

several other sites to check out,

ar15.com
glocktalk.com
selfdefenseforums.com
selfdefensegear.com

the last 2 sites have lots of content involving handguns, violence, and wreaking havoc on thugs using improvised weapons. Fun stuff like double-tapping the perp in the head, tac reloads, and stomping people's knees out. Selfdefensegear got banned on Google for a while because of the weapons content. And yet I can pull up copies of "Hitman" which is a fully detailed guide on becoming a professionally employed killer. :?

The funniest thing is that *I* was the one in charge of running the part of the school network. All the computers in my high school library were maintained by *me*, and I had full access to do my job, set filters, passwords, etc. You can imagine what kind of filters I had there, which is to say none at all. Total freedom of information, just the way a library should be.

Actually, that should be at the discretion of the library... and if they have a lot of kids using the computers, it would be irresponsible of them to not use a filtering softare.

Case in point: my wife used to teach computers at an elementary school. Her computer didn't have filters, but the kids did. Lucky thing, too. One day, she tried doing a site for Ohio Indians. The first page of results consisted entirely of porn. Heaven help the elementary kid at home doing a study of Tecumsah or Blue Jacket at home....

Ah, yes, the people who block those sites are incredibly stupid. The corporate websites of Colt, Browning, and Winchester were blocked at the school i went too because of their gun content (ooohhh, guns are evil things, everyone that uses one is bad [im kidding, im a gun user meself]), and a few sites that had pictures of classical greek statues (because their nudity sometimes was 'offensive'). Idiots! Why block that?! I mean, you have sites like peta.org (a group known to fund and promote violent terrorism against forestry and hunting organiztions), and a few others that I know of that are alot more disturbing than a firearm manufacturers corporate website. Stupid people...what would the world do without them?

The funny thing is at my high school you can surf porn, but not cetain online nonviolent game sites. And CNN was blocked and Disney and other legal things. Violent webpages and porn aren't because they probablky do'tthink you have the audicity too search porn on the net. And NF yes they are dumb I doubt too school a book on Operation Overlord, and they said it had guns in it. If they were smart enough too realize blasters are SW guns they would ban them too. j/k

My friends and I are admins for the Publications computer lab. I'm on the newspaper staff so I don't get to do much in the way of admin stuff, however...We have free reign. Because of the admin access we can jump right past any filters. We're currently working on cracking the proxy so we can play UT online, :D.

Additionally, our computers were replaced somewhat last year, so we can sneak in some older parts easily, or even a few new parts for "lost or broken inventory". Currently, we're running a 1.1 ghz with 256 megs of RAM, and a pretty crappy VooDoo 3, but we've snagged a nice mac 21" monitor that work's with the WinBlows system. We're working hard to game in school, :)
