I`m not exactly sure if OT is the correct place but i wonder wich nationality the next pope is going to be,me i think it will be an Italian.

I`m bringing this up cause on the local news today they were talking about should JPII step down to give the place to someone else,and they asked people on the street and some think the next pope could be a Quebec Cardinal.....yeah like thats gonna happen.

what do you think?

I doubt that would happen anytime soon. The Cardinals that chose the Pope are far more conservative than the Catholic religion in Africa. Simply on the grounds of doctrinal acceptablity it would be a very hard fight.

An African pope (black or white) is as unlikely as an american Pope.

Which is also far less likely than a European pope.

He'll probably be an Italian, if history is any indication. There's a narrow possibility of him being from another predominantly Catholic country (Poland, Lithuania, something) but I doubt it. The thing I don't get is that there's never been any Spanish speaking pope when that culture group has been the bulwark of Catholicism since the Moor invasion.

This might strike y'all as a little "off" but I think that there should be Pope Championships. I think being appointed to the papacy should be the result of an arduous contest. Tests of conviction would be great. The celibacy round, for example -- I can't stand religion for the most part, but I'd tune in for that.

They should make the Dalai Lama the new pope. That would be totally kickass. Then he should tell South America to kick the shit out of China. And China would be like, "Hell no," and smack them down. That would be awesome.
