While Peter has his merits, Homer can do almost anything Peter can, and then some.

While Family Guy is a good show, Peter isn't really what I would call a memorable character.

"Woo-Hoo! I hit the jackpot!" - Homer J.
Sorry, but Peter just doesn't have the catchphrase power that Homer does...

Let's face it: while funny, Peter's kind of a dick.
Homer's a nicer guy. And he's funnier...

Peter's pretty damn awesome, but Homer created an English word. I don't think Peter can top that.

Peter Griffin is a Homer Simpson Ripoff, just like Famiy Guy was a ripoff of Simpsons.

There was also more 'adult' content. Personally, I found the Simpson's much better.

Then there's Peter's laugh.
His evil, Godless, soul-sucking laugh...
I just hate it. And his chin. I hate that, too.
Another advantage that Homer has over Peter is that he's not as fat. I mean, Peter must easily weigh about a third more than Homer...

Peter is clearly a homer clones(remember the magic hammoc tree house of horror?), and while he is a great funny bastard of a diety, his one liners have more of that, funny cause it's offensive, while Homer is more funny in general.
Sorry, but I gotta go with H-ditty and his murder ho.

I wonder who would win in a fight...
Homer is strong enough to wield a motorcycle like a sword, but he once failed to kill a fly with a punch.

Homer has both a speed and strength advantage. He'd knock that fat son of a bitch down in one punch and run like the dickens out of there.

Yes, well, on the whacking day episode, Homer exhibited exquisite-controlled martial arts ninja abilities. He has also proven to be ludicrously strong (see the 'survivor' episode where he hefted a boulder twice his size). On the same side, he can't sprint two feet without becoming winded and often fails to be strong enough to lift a finger.
Peter, on the other hand, seems fairly constant in abilities, strength, and prowess.
I'd guess it depends on what episode you're watching with Homer, he goes from indestructible He-Man to barely-surviving wimp.

Peter is definately the better fighter technique wise(see fight with the cupoun chicken and his martial arts master kryptonian ass beating wife) but Homer is a fucking tank, and when angry has great strength(lifting boulder to crush helicopter, and fighting with a motorcycle)

And yet in the comic book episode with Stan lee he was incredibly angry yet had no noticeable increase in strength. Homer simply varies too much. In most forms though I expect Peter would win an actual fight. Though that's not what the thread called for.

With enough motivation Homer would kick Peters ass.....(Donuts)

Homer's smarter: he works at a nuclear power plant and manages not to blow up the city. Conversely, when Peter became president of his toy company, he used a pencil sharpener on multiple appendages of his person. (If we include Halloween episodes, Homer also accidentally created a time machine while fixing a toaster.)
I can't remember the circumstances, but I do know that Homer has outsmarted a few people on occasion (he even got Bill Gates to purchase a non-existant computer company from him). Has Peter ever outsmarted anyone?

It is fitting that the character's name is Peter. 'Cause he's such a dick.I have difficulty watching this show because of that character. He has close to no redeeming qualities. He is so rude and inconsiderate, that he's just not funny.
Homer, is oblivious, short sighted and greedy, but has enough morals and manners that he can at least experience guilt. He very often does the right thing, after cheesing it starts to unravel. He knows what is right, it's just so much work!
{Homer's flaws stem from lazyness, and love of comfort. When motivated, he is a dynamo of activaty. (usualy not focused, but furious)
Most important difference, though, is Homer TRIES to be good.
Peter doesn't even FAKE trying, until bad things visit him personaly. He then tries to cheese it, and lets it go, (for OTHERS to fix)unless he's burned hardcore on the cheesing. Only as a last resort, to inescapable bad consequences, does Peter do the right thing. And even THEN, it is a minimal effort to get the minimum acceptable results.}
Peter, on the other hand, seems to have close to zero empathy. He knows what is right, and does the wrong thing on perpouse. He is one of those, "Forgivness is easier to get than permission, and getting away with it is even easier," types, who hope to get away clean, or be forgiven if caught.
When Homer uses the "wall of ignorance," he realy doesn't get it. Peter pretends not to get it, and must be FORCED to behave well.
Peter seems borderline sociopath. People's feelings just don't matter to him, unless they directly affect him. Until his wife starts giving him consequences, he doesn't care how upset/angry any family member is.
Homer is just too dumb to know how little he knows, (and thanks to the "self esteem movement") and is falsely confident about his abilities.
Homer deeply loves his children, and will sacrifice himself to save them from danger. (Usualy in an ineffective but funny way)
Homer used to bug me a little, but like Gilligan, you just can't stay mad at him, because his heart is still a good one.
Not so with Peter.
Could they not have given Peter SOME redeeming qualities, if only to make the constrast more severe? He isn't even witty or quick.

I've always like Homer better. He's the classic character other well-meaning dumb guy. Peter is just a one joke act with a nut sack dangling off his face for a chin. As for a fight between the two, are we forgetting that Homer was once described as 'the brick hit house'? It took the punch of a heavy weight champ to rattle his brains. How long could Peter be wolluped by that surgical two by four?

Homer would own Peter. Homer can cause a nuclear meltdown without the use of nuclear materials and can withstand enough radiation that would otherwise decimate a city.

He can also eat nuclear waste with no real consequences.

Peter takes it... Not based on quotes, abilities or personality... but on the basis of his youngest son... the All-Wrathful Stewie.
