None of these shows fit the 'reality' description anyway
All are rehearsed

Why do they call it "Reality"? After all, nothing's more real than somebody pretending to be rich selecting a woman out 25 eligible bachelorettes, or a bunch of people on an island voting each other off for a million dollars...

Maybe it's a sort of disease of our society. Notice how all the contestants are going through many a trial to win money. We're obsessed with money, and our lives are cushy, safe, with our society actively discouraging uniqueness and pioneering...

The same reason MTV called their show "The Real World."
Let's see here. Put 6+ strangers, all young and photogenic, let them live in a place none of them could afford, and make sure you put a flamboyant gay/lesbian in the mix. Give them a budget, for fun events.
Since this is temporary, and no one will be suffering any downside if they can't get along, no one needs to show manners or restraint. The cameras encourage meladrama and hystrionics.
That's reality?
Hopefully the "Joe Shmoe" mockery signals the ending of this chapter of TV.

I think the only reality shows that are actually reality shows are things like Insomniac

I say it's a combination of people liking the stuff, and network executives not having to pay the stars a million dollars an episode. In this case, the former is more important than the latter. Sure, they might not have to spend as much, but if it would only get one-tenth the viewers of something else, then they might not air it.

I am reminded of tonight's Simpsons.
-Krusty is beating a network exec who is clinging to his golf cart with a shoe-
EXEC: You can kill me but two more will take my plaaaaace!

Heh, I actually heard a reality show I can get behind (besides stuff like Insomniac, which is great). Something called "Surviving Nugent", were a group of people are put at the tender mercies of rocker, gun nut, and eccentric Ted Nugent. Yes, this is a real show. I saw a commercial for it.

FYI, Reality TV can only last so long. At the moment the TV networks are hurting their future profits. While reality TV makes for cheap and near instant profits, the long term is much less. Reality TV has absolutely no rewatch value. This means sydnication is worthless and reruns will never make them money. No DVDs, none of that extra money.
On the other hand a good TV show will make money multiple times across the years and is a good investment.
Incidently, this is why Reality TV shows are popular replacements for summer programing (already dealing with reruns and no new programing) and between new episodes of a show (replacing SG1 while its on its mid season break).

I hope that happens sooner rather then later. I can picture the producer running and yelling at the person's friends "But you said he didn't own a gun!"

Bad luck will catch up with them. Someone will get "lucky" with an improvised weapon, or be carrying a knife. Blood will flow, an eye will be lost, a trachia crushed, or a shot fired in terror.
In the commision of a crime, there are no accidents. and yes, there are crimes being comitted, just no prosecution yet. Any one dies, or even gets put in the hospital, and someone goes to jail. Police are VERY unsympathetic to the hollywood crowd when they need to fill out paperwork.
I'm waiting for the first mega lawsuit, for "intentional infliction of emotional harm," damages in the millions.
THIS will kill fear factor.
I am surprised no one has tried to milk that cash cow yet.

I think the execs of Fear Factor make people sign a contract wich may say they won`t sue them over the mental anguish caused by the shit they have to do or eat.

Fear Factor,Survivor and other reality show contestants have a motivation $1.000.000 at the end...Jackass jerks got nothing but hospital bill.

Hospital bill, nuisance to people around them, the stuff I filmed can't be discussed on the board. PM me, or use one of my chat contacts if anyone wants to know.

It doesnt protect other companies which try and get you to sign away that type of responcibility.
Why will it be different here?

all reality shows make the contestants sign of waiver. So no one will ever be sued.

Fear factor can not do this, because the victim must be surprised, idiots!
"Here, sign this, but don't read it!"
"Who are you, and what am I signing?"
"Oh, nobody, we just don't want you to sue us over mumble mumble."
"Not sue you for what? What are you planning?"
"Oh, nothing, just mumble mumle."
"I'm not signing this LEGAL form, until I know what's going on!"
Serious folks, the very premise of the show precludes the ability to get a release form signed in advance.
They sign releases AFTER being filmed, scared, calmed down, and paid.
Only the perps know in advance this is a set up.
Studio, producers, and "friends" would all be legitamate targets of a law suit from hell. With the deep pockets of Hollywood, a bloodthirsty lawyer is easy to find.
I wonder how many folks are so pissed off, they refuse to sign, and tell their "friends" and the producers to fuck off sideways.
I have heared they have already had a close call, wherein a hitchhker gone bad scene resulted in the passenger/victim started to combat his "assailant." The scene was brought to an unplanned premature ending, by telling the guy it was a set up, in order to stop the combat.
(It was limited, by the small environment, seatblets and seats, so only bruising occured.)
Edit: The other game shows, like "Surviver," or that goofy dubbed asian one on Spike, (People get FUCKED UP on that one) are self evidently dangerous. Being put on an island, or running an obstacle course, is not a surprise.
