That's so dirty...I should try that out with my own island in the middle of the Caribbean or Pacific or something...

You mean youve never heard of Sealand? The worlds most powerful nation?

I particularly remember where Britain extended the range of their territorial waters, which would have encompassed Sealand, so Sealand did the same, bwahahah.

I hope to do a similar thing when I retire, buy a lot of farmland, and make my own country. The Mike Nugent Empire.

Wow. This sounds like something straight out of a Neal Stephenson novel.

The best part is when Sealand singlehandedly defeats a group of Dutchmen and a German.

The bizarre thing is that it's completely real. Though they are effectively unrecognized--though nominally acknowledged in certain ways that Sealand has tried to extend--they really do exist and of course they run the Hub off the platform which generates a fair amount of revenue and causes conniptions for security types.

I wonder if I could purchase some Sealand Real Estate, maybe acquire some currency.

DUDE! Better Idea. Stardestroyer.net residents rise up to conquer Sealand for ourselves! We form a brand new country, rename it SDNet, and have all sorts of fun.

I don't think so. First, we'd have to overrun Sealand itself and wipe out the defenders. Second, we risk rousing the wrath of the international community. And how could we justify it? We don't have a common border to squabble over, and since we can't legally live there we can't classify it as a communist revolution, either.

Heh, what if Sealand sent troops to Iraq in exchange for recognition from the US?

Well, based on the population, they might be able to spare...

...The Crown Prince.

Well, all the better. The troops like a king who leads from the front.

Thought I suppose the question is, the front of what?

Clearly, Sealand is ours on a basis of Acquiris Quodcumque Rapis. I suggest mobilizing the HAB immediately.

Anything you have to buy would already be part of a country, so that won't work. What you need to do is rent a dredge and build your own island.

Then we could use it as a base to raid Freedom ship, assuming doesn't snap in half and sink first.

But it's been done before here, by 2 different guys if I recall.

Let's see just how contrived a claim I can make to Sealand, because it's That Kind Of Day.

Conceivably, someone in my bloodline was, in some way involved in the fortress. It is completely credible that they were not asked whether they wanted to abandon the island. Since I am the eldest male of my family not militarily inclined in this generation, it becomes increasingly clear I should be ruling this island. Since I am not, and I am living in poverty(Literally true. I'm below the poverty level) in a foreign land on the generousity of their government, I must be the ruler-in-exile.

Ergo, any military action by us to restore me to controlling Sealand is not, in fact, invasion, but restoration of the legal regime. And everyone who supports this endeavour gets a cool-sounding title or rank.

Does Sealand have WMD? If so, well you know where I'm going with this...

They've got a bunch of steel and concrete, key components of any WMD program.

Cool. Good for them, showing that originality and persistance still work even today in a world of corrupt and oppressive governments and laws.

I want one of those platforms...

Why does Rockall island spring to mind...

This also reminds me of some American billionaire who wanted to make his own utopia nation on a set of rigs off the coast of Florida. It'd be called New Atlantis and be a sovereign nation, course, only rich people could get on at first.

But I think Sealand is far superior, I'm sure they require an extra biologist there for their WMD programme...

So, it's a combination 'Regime Change/Anti-WMD programme assault'? Quick, get CNN.

Such a small place, we'd have to send in a wave of newbies/redshirts first to take the heavy losses. We'll arm them with deadly nail clippers.

As soon as they are all dead we'll send in the ruling class, then we invite the AVN awards to hold court there, I then offer everyone except jenna Jameson and myself to have a nice drink of Kool AId.

THe Principality of Sealand falls and the Armed Republic of Frinktopia arises! yaaaaaay!!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

*people rejoice*

On second thought, after seeing the picture, I'll pass.

The Gnomes will take it over.

Other than that, I don't know.
