Meat Question (somewhat has to do with steak)

Ok, I've heard of things like rare, medium rare and etc., but I don't know what they mean. Not being an eater of steak doesn't help either.
So if anyway can finally clear this for me that would be appreciated. It is probably one of the oldest question in me.~Jason

It's all about the cooking. Well done is somewhere around the brown all the way through mark, medium is somewhere between pinkish and brownish, being moderately cooked, and rare is pink/raw in the middle and is absolutely fantastic with a decent steak... :D

How much it's cooked.

Rare is pinkish-red on the inside, while Well Done is "so burnt is doesn't taste like food anymore". Medium is somewhere inbetween, and then there's Medium Rare And Medium well.

Well-done - some people say this is black on the outside and brown on the inside.

Med. Well-done - slightly pink in the center.

Medium - pink in the center

Medium-rare (the way I like it) - slightly red in the center

Rare - red in the center

Anything more cooked than Medium isn't steak anymore.

Rare all the way.

Also with what verilon put...include that it usually ranges from Hot center to warm on the scale of Rare-Well Done.

That was quick.
*checks off another question*
Thanks everyone. :D

Though pink is a little weird to me as it seems raw... it has always been white or brown meat with me heh.

Cyaround,

Medium rare is my preference, although Outback Steak House seems to make their MR steaks too close to rare.

I grew up not understanding what the big deal was about steak cause my mom cooks steaks till they curl at the edges. Tough and dry meat is a crime.

When I finally ate a medium/rare steak, I was like WOW this is good.

Really, you need to eat steak medium at the very least, and medium rare to rare preferably. Overcooking just absolutely kills the taste. It's the juiciness that makes steak steak, something you don't get with a well-done cut.

Not often, anyways. It's hard to find someone that can do it right, but I've seen it done.

Whilst my parents were on holiday, the friends of the family invited me over for dinner, they'd bought fillet steak, and cooked it perfect rare, served with basic stuff, homemade potato wedges, white asparagus, tomato etc, it was gorgeous, I couldnt actually eat all of it. The cat finished mine, shortly before going out to sumo wrestle the local blackbird, who was getting just a little too big for his boots.

Nothing more raw than medium. I don't like my steak mooing when I sink a fork into it.

How else are you going to know that it's fresh?

Rare is 120 degrees farenheit in the center.
Medium Rare is 141 degrees.
Medium is 150.
Well is 165.
Any other questions?

(edit)There are variations to this, and Well Done is sometimes stated as being 185 degrees.

tenderized and with a nice dry spice rub . Cooked over FIRE to somewhere between medium rare and medium. Cover in sauteed onions and mushrooms. grill up some zuchinni, and summer squash on the side. toss in a nice ear of corn and some salad. yum
