oh how baseball can turn even esteemed posters into neanderthal Yankee fans. you know who i'm talking about. All i have to say is this: Saturday, Martinez vs. Clemens, 4:00pm at Fenway. Tickets are almost impossible, so i will most likeley be at Jillian's in Boston in the 4th floor bar. If any NE area sd.netters care to join, all the better. Now allow me to lead the forum in a boisterous chant of Yankees Suck!

This Yankees team may actually be beatable. They are not quite the Machine they've been through the late '90s, even with 101 regular season wins in the bag. I'd rate the overall team pitching of the Red Sox as slightly better than the Yankees staff (though the relief rotation is a bit iffy) and both are strong slugging teams. If both shut each other's offense down for the most part, the BoSox can win with small-ball. But if they let the Pinstrippers wheel out the big bats once, they'll get stomped.

I'm pulling for a Cubs/Red Sox series.

The relief squad on the Sox is not the disater that many portray it as. Timlin is smoking inthe post season. Embree, is hot and cold, although he seems to be getting in a groove. Last night as an exception, Williamson is a good, solid closer. What i want to see is Arroyo. He was AAA pitcher of the year in Pawtucket, and he can be one hell of a weapon, simply because nobody has seen his stuff. Byung-Hung Kim is done. after flipoing the bird to the fans at fenway he doesn't deserve to wear the uniform. Besides, he seems unable to do anything other than wet himself when faced with Yankee hitting. expect him to be off the roster for the ALCS.

That collision between Damian Jackson and Johnny Damon was probably the worst sports collision I've ever seen outside of a NASCAR race. I'm still cringing while watching the replays of it.

Yankees won't probably win again this year and I hope they don't as I don't believe they have the stuff to win it for the American league.
I'm rooting for Bosox and the CUBS! and screw the Marlins!

Bast case scenario:

Yankees lose 'cause it would shut up those Yankee fans.

Marlin's lose because they got our wildcard spot.

Sox lose because, honestly, it would be so wrong for them to win.

Cubs? Sure, why not.

I would be worried if they enter the World Series (Remember 2001?) and I still don't think they're ready for it imo. People like Soriano, Juan Rivera, etc still need to get a groove in there.
I don't particulary like Soriano as he wants to just hit HRs instead of running the bases.
IMO, Red Sox has a better chance beating the Cubs or Marlins.

For what it's worth i offer a prediction.

Red Sox take the ALCS in 6 games with a particularly ugly game 3 where Roger Clemens gets lit up a la 1999.

Screw the Red Sox. They beat my team (A's). I don't care who wins now, as long as the Sox lose.

You have to admit , that was a fantastic series. Games 1,3 and 5 went down to the wire and were as dramatic as baseball game could possibly be. Game 4 was close fight and 2 was a great game for A's fans. Oakland put up one hell of a fight and fans should be happy with their ability to compete with big budget teams consistantly.

You do have a good point... Those games in the series kicked some serious ass.

True, but they had already lost two of their pitchers and great ones at that (Mulder and ?) so it was good that they got out. If you're short on the pitching staff then don't bother at all.~Jason
