Clive Owen is the next James Bond.

I have to say good choice.

I was just reading over at Universal Exports that this may not be too reliable. Any UKers heard anything on this?

I don't think this belongs here. Moved to OT.

I liked Brosnan... but he is getting old. Oh well, I hope this new guy is good.

The Bond franchise is like Star Trek...it used to be pretty cool, and there are things they could do to spice it up again, but they will never do them, and it would be better off just dying.

Was that the one with the North Koreans? What the hell was up with the theme song?

And a satellite incinerating nuclear missiles in the USSR by using diamonds to capture sunlight (Diamonds are Forever, on the off chance you didn't know) isn't far-fetched?

Let's try not to ponder upon it...given how many are just ridiculous(Grace Jones as a sexy assassin? The City in Space, or perhaps irraidiating all of Fort Knox?).

My point exactly. The Bond franchise has always featured implausible shit, so why focus on Die Another Day?

And actually, the most implausible thing about DoD was the fact that the U.S. military could apparently only deploy one single missile from one single direction against Icarus.

Clive Owen kinda looks like a thinner younger George Lazenby, and we all know how long he lasted....

James Bond movied always have been in the lands of never-never. However lately they have really been scraping the barrel for villians. Goldeneye was the last great Bond movie IMHO.

In reality the US has nil ASAT capability. We'd just jam the shit out of its communications.

Eh? The Bond movies are still pretty cool. They had some bad ones, but those were years ago.

TND focused too much on mindless action, but TWINE was an improvment, although it was not as good as Goldeneye. I haven't seen Die Another Day yet, surprisingly enough. I think it's actually kind of good that Brosnan is retiring from the films before he gets too old for the character and gains the potential of making another Octopussy or View to a Kill-esque bond.

I'd like to say I loved Goldfinger and A View To A Kill.

They were just so silly, and the medal Bond got at the end of AVTAK was classic.

The problem with the Bond series isn't that they're especially implausible now (since even the greatest ones were implausible), it's just that they're fucking stupid. Bad acting, bad writing, and above all, total unoriginality.
Andrew J. wrote:Eh? The Bond movies are still pretty cool. They had some bad ones, but those were years ago.
So, you thought Die Another Day was "pretty cool"? You thought that fucking The World Is Not Enough was "pretty cool"? The Bond series is mostly shit. The last one that was even remotely good was eight years ago, Goldeneye. And the last one that was actually good was all the way back in 1964.

But of course, you're entitled to have your own crazy opinions about the series; it's not something we can test and prove one way or the other. Hell, some people liked Bad Company.
But don't be surprised if people think you're retarded.

Ah, but was Lazenby ever King Arthur?

Anybody seen those BMW short films? He's the driver. Clive Owen has a lot of charisma, good choice.

He also played The Professor in Bourne Identity.
