Teenager In Trouble In Inhaler Incident
Wed Oct 8, 6:55 PM ET

A teenager was disciplined for sharing medication used to treat asthma, but he said it saved his girlfriend's life, News2Houston reported Wednesday.

Andra Ferguson and her boyfriend, Brandon Kivi, both 15, use the same type of asthma medicine, Albuterol Inhalation Aerosol.

Ferguson said she forgot to bring her medication to their school, Caney Creek High School, on Sept. 24. When she had trouble breathing, she went to the nurse's office.

Out of concern, Kivi let her use his inhaler.

"I was trying to save her life. I didn't want her to die on me right there because the nurse's office (doesn't) have breathing machines," Kivi said.

"It made a big difference. It did save my life. It was a Good Samaritan act," Ferguson said.

But the school nurse said it was a violation of the district's no-tolerance drug policy, and reported Kivi to the campus police.

The next day, he was arrested and accused of delivering a dangerous drug. Kivi was also suspended from school for three days. He could face expulsion and sent to juvenile detention on juvenile drug charges.

The mothers of both teenagers are angry.

"My son will not go to jail. This is ridiculous," said Theresa Hock, Kivi's mother. "I believe he shouldn't be punished at all because he was helping her. She was in distress."

"If he hadn't helped her, she would have passed out or died or something because her asthma's been really bad this year," said Sandra Ferguson, Andra's mother.

The school principal said he couldn't do anything about it since Kivi not only broke school rules, but also allegedly violated state law.

"It's simply a matter that it's classified as a dangerous drug. It's an inhaler form, but yet, if it had been in pill form or any other, it's still classified as a dangerous drug," said Greg Poole, the Caney Creek principal.

"Would Caney Creek had want Andra to have died rather than my son to help her?" Hock said.

Poole said the nurse never considered Andra to be in a life-threatening situation.

The school district will hold a hearing on the matter Friday.
Now, I could see them getting upset if he did this for shits & giggles, or if he didn't know what he was doing, but FUCK! How stupid are these people? People should learn to use their fucking judgement on these things.

Abuse of zero-policy rule indeed...

Zero-tolerance policy: the biggest God-damned farce in history. Right on up there with the "Homeland Security" office and the "Patriot" acts.

Albuterol is not a dangerous inhaler at all, and is the most common inhaler to deal with asthma symptoms (tightness in chest, shortness of breath, difficulty inhaling and exhaling) If someone didn't have asthma, and they took 10 inhalations of it (2 is the norm), no adverse reaction would happen to them, except there heart may beat a little bit faster, but no more than if they drank a few sips of coffee.

I have a mild case of asthma, and carry my albuterol with me at all times, but if I don't have it and get an allergic reaction and start to get breathing problems, my life can get real unpleasant very quickly.

On two geology fieldtrips last spring, a girl who had asthma started to get asthmatic sypmtoms but didn't have her albuterol, so I gave her mine on both occasions. The professor knew both times I was doing so. I find it disgusting that helping someone out like that could land me in jail.

Uh huh. An asthmatic is now fucked because he helped someone else out. I hope this causes a huge uproar to change the Zero-Tolerance policy, this isn't the first time anything like this has happened, either. Oh, and, according to polls, aren't something along the lines of 66 percent of the populace indifferent/accepting of the decriminalization of marijuana?

Yes, I know that was random

Until some kids start dying and a nice large lawsuit is filed, I doubt anything's gonna change. Let's face it, about the only thing politicians & lawmakers understand is lawsuits.

A couple of dead kids and lawsuits isn't going to change anything. There almost have to be several dozen dead people in several states roughly in the same time period and the following lawsuits to grab and hold the public's and politican's attention.

Hardly.
Has this offender been Tried and Sentenced?
Has this offender served any time in a corporate sponsored work camp or "Boot Camp"?
Much less a non-profit state or Federal prison?
You have a very troubling idea on what constitutes a victory, Lord Wong.

There is a very fine line between zero tolerance and FUCKING STUPID.
Zero tolerance= You have marjiuana. you're gone. Crack? Gone.
FUCKING STUPID= Gawd, I have a headache. I left my motrin at home. can I get one of yours? Why yes you can! **Agents bust in "GET ON THE GROUND, PUSHER SCUM!!"**

MORON MORON MORON MORON MORON STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID.

That's fucking retarded, to an extreme. This level of retarded is so extreme that it has its own crust, mantle, and core. Truely planet of the retarded.

This makes me wonder what the fuck is going on in America these days, and stuff like this makes me actually overlook some of the UK's flaws.

Edit: Some serious spell-check refinement.

Zero Tolerance is simply the Lazy Coward's way out since the government fucktards aren't required to think. Thinking requires Work. Unfortunately the Guvmint assholes want the privileges power brings but not the responsibility it brings, so they don't want to expend energy on working and thinking. If we wanted to be ruled by unthinking, unfeeling fuckheads, we woulda hardwired our fucking brains to be controlled by computers and machines. Borg, anyone?

Yes another reason the War on Drugs is nothing but a war on people!
