DMV bullshit

I just discovered that I have an accident listed on my driving record from September 25, 2001. This accident happened when an uninsured idiot rear ended me in front of my university. Although there was no damage to my car, his front end took a good amount. I decided to let it go since I had no damage at all.

Now, later on that day I happened to talk to a CHP buddy who advised me to fill out an accident report. I did this.

Fast forward two years: I find out today that this accident is on my driving record, AND it is listed as my fault. I have been paying high insurance since then because of it. I screwed myself with the damn accident report (even though I never admitted any kind of fault).

I sent in my correction form to the DMV today to get this taken care of. This pisses me off. Anyone else have DMV horror stories?

You filled in an accident report when you didn't have to? Sorry, but you have no one to blame but yourself.

Very true. I guess I misunderstood the CHP officer. I thought he said that I could get into trouble if I didn't fill it out. Anyway, I sure as heck didn't think that it was some type of admission of being at fault.

No real horror stories from the DMV other than one time they said there was a lein on my car. They figured out the error in about 10 minutes so it was no big deal.

In Arizona, the way I understand the lein thing working is that you can go pay to have the lein removed after you've paid the lein off. Otherwise your registration has the lein on it so you can't sell the car and book with the cash while leaving the loan company high and dry.

I would think there must be some sort of time limit on those things though. I've nearly had my truck for 15 years. It would be rather ridiculous for the state of Arizona to presume that I still had a lein on it 10 years after the typical car loan is due.

It has been a long time, but it was something like that. I went to the DMV to take care of something. I believe I was dropping off a check for registration, but I could be wrong. They dont let you do that now. At the time I had owned the car for about a year. I bought it used from a private party.
