They let idiots at the Philharmonic?

Alright, this is my long rant about a moron I encountered today.

I am on my way to a music hall with my friend (The Silence and I). We are there to sing in a sort of pre-concert (Yes, I sing...amazing isn't it?). Well we enter the main lobby, and are told by a nice old lady that we will need a ticket to enter (We didn't before), and that a person should be along shortly to give us one. A minute passes, and another friend has come in and told the same thing we were. Now we are really curious about this, the old lady comes back, explains that we need a ticket to the concert in order to get into a different room (Yeah...that makes sense...NOT), and that the person who was supposed to be handing out tickets didn't show up. We are led to a comfy bench and asked to sit down.

We are conversing about the oddity of the needing tickets, I'm occasionally trying to get the attention of one of the other singers so they can tell our conductor that we are here and will be late, to no avail. AND HERE COMES THE BITCH! She walks up to us nicely enough, asking us if we are hear to sing, etc. We ask her about the ticket thing, she says the smae thing the old lady did. One of the people who was sitting with us mentions she isn't going to the concert, the woman replies "Well if you aren't staying for the concert you shouldn't be performing." With that she walks away. I meanwhile am muttering, as well as Silence and I "Bitch...bitch...bitch..."

It's been about 4 minutes after that, 8 minutes of waiting total. We get up and are about to get up and go to the room where we are singing, tickets be damned. I decide that instead of getting in trouble we should check the other enterance to see if we can get tickets over there (Something none of the people in charge thought of, mainly the bitch).

We go over there, pick up some other people, and see the conductor's husband (Yay!). We walk up to him, there are about 6 or 7 of us now, we talk to him about the tickets, he tells us he has none, but takes a head count, which is good enough.

Yay, we've waisted 9 minutes now, we are walking towards the room where we are supposed to sing, they've already started warming up. We are about 30 feet away from the door when the snobby, stupid, bitch shows up again. She informs us that we are to sit back down until we get tickets, so they know how many people showed up, we inform her that we got a headcount. She again says that we are to sit back down until we get tickets, I now tell her that the conductors husband got a head count and that practice is beginning, we need to get there.

With this myself and Silence and I walk past her and towards the door. She runs after us and says something along the line of "I'm sensing an attitude problem!" Now...I am pissed...I turn around, REALLY trying to be civil with this woman. I shake my head a lot and say "Yeah!" She goes off on something about attitudes, how it's inappropriate, I'm just thinking about how much of a stupid bitch this woman is. Another woman shows up and tells the bitch that our conductor is wondering where a good portion of her men's choir is (I'm pretty much the lead tenor, Silence and I is a strong bass) and that she is getting really antsy. I turn to this new woman, smile at her, thank her, and walk away. Silence and I hears the bitch saying "We have a big problem here."

Turns out the bitch was some important person who was speaking before our concert...hehe, whoops. We noticed that she wasn't paying attention to any of the singing, and didn't clap when the men's group sang.

That was one outcome, the other two possible outcomes would have lead to me being thrown forcefully out of the building.

One scenario, she would have talked for another 30 seconds. I would have said something along the lines of (This is unedited) "Listen up fucktard, we got our fucking headcount si shut the hell up. Go talk to Mrs. Allen's (Our conductor) husband about the head count and shut up you stupid ignorant bitch. If that's not good enough for you, I'll tell you what, I'll get you a chair and you can stand on it in the back and count each of the kids, but since a shitheaded retard like yourself can't count past fucking 10, here's what you can do, count to 10 a bunch of times then ask a fucking 4th grader to add it up for you!" Considering how much of a snooty bitch she is, I would have been slapped, considering how ungentlemanly like I am and how pissed I was, I would have slugged her a few times, and been tossed out by security. And probably put up on charges.

Second scenario, The Silence and I says/does something she ATTEMPTS to slap him...she doesn't make it as I've caught the arm and would say something like "You fuckign touch him with one finger and you won't live long enough to regret it." Again, I would have been kicked out, and set up on charges.

I might have missed something, so The Silence and I, feel free to add.

So exactly who was she? She wasn't the director by any chance? LOL. I don't understand this whole "ticket" business. At the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, they have a seperate entrance for performers.. checklists, guards and what have you.

She was like...the president of some music thing...can't remember. The whole ticket business was new, normally we just get tickets after our part for the main concert, and we didn't have a seperate enterance because we were not in the main hall, we were in a smaller room that was across the hall.

Iff this woman was just a guest speaker, why was she trying to be some sort of usher in making sure you had your tickets and stuff? Shouldn't she have had more important things to do?

*Looks at his post again* Did I forget to say that we were a pre-performance? We weren't a part of the actual performance, we were a pre-show in a different room.

She was the president of education for the music hall...or something like that. I have no bloody clue what she was, and I'd be happy to never know.

I have a story like that, except I, in my flatlining type of way, duly informed her that I was getting paid for being here weather I performed or not, and had no intention of staying anywhere near the hall after I was paid. Went on about attitudes and stuff whyle I rang the conductor and informed him I had an issue getting in the hall.

I like the proffesional gigs better. A security guard asks you to sign in a book, he gives you a security pass, and you walk in. simple, easy, effective.

I think the best is last year, I was requested for a non-paid amuter orchestra with nobody important in it. just a few amatuer musos I'v never seen near anything. The rehearsals were long tedius and straining to my ears (out of tune, badly paid) finally on the day of the performance the conductor (an old grey woman with about as much zeal as a basement brick) was bitching that I hadn't paid for a ticket. I gave her a choice. Either she shuts up and lets me play 1st trumpet. or else she can do without a trumpet. That's the first ever gig I went to and didn't feel guilty about leaving before it started. She said something about attitude and that with an attitude like that I'd find it hard to get 'playing opportunities'. Iv had more gigs since then than before, and most of them paid.

These days my first question when rung up to play in an orchestra is
"How much?"

I find the more you are paid, the better you are treated. If you are paid nothing and volunteer your services you get treated like shit.
