Illuminati NWO is was a fun card game.

Ahhhhhh, Risk. Was there ever a better strategy game?

I like Trivial Persuit, Backgammon, Life (now there was a fun game)... hm, I can't think of any others at the moment.

Life! I forgot all about that game. I used to always end up with a load of children. Actually it was those little plastic sticks, but you know what I mean.

Actually, yes. It's called Diplomacy...

But Risk is fun, too...I'll put that in the No. 3 slot. Then Scrabble and Monopoly and Life.

The best game played at the kitchen table is FRAG. Period.

Although I can't quite shake that addiction to Magic: The Gathering that I picked up a few years ago.

YOU MUST RESIST!

I had that addiction a few years ago. I hated my friends. They all made kill decks. I made theme decks. We'd have games that'd last forever.

I couldn't go cold turkey, no...I'll have to move on to 'lite' withdraw mechanisms like Pokemon and then Uno. Soon I'll be back to playing Go Fish like the rest of the world.

I used to be a risk junkie, until I found Axis and Allies. (drools)

And of course, no rules Monopoly.

I'd say Scrabble. You only need two people, and the games don't go on forever. But, if you have time, Risk and Monopoly are good games too.

Diplomacy = Axis and Allies at a higher level.

Only problem is, you sometimes need a larger amount of people (seven, in particular) to play a good game....I am playing about 5 games online, now (playing in 3, GMing 2).

OMG, if you like Axis & Allies, you'll LOVE Diplomacy--and get ADDICTED to it.... *runs over to http://www.redscape.com/ to check up on various games...*

Actually, following up the original post about Chess being great...

I would love to find one damn human on this planet who can give me a run for my money at Othello/Reversi. Chess is good, checkers is a fun little pasttime on long trips, but Reversi is in a class all its own for me.

I think I must have tried upwards of a hundred online reversi games, and not one damn computer opponent (and near to no human opponents) have figured out how to win at that.

It's got three names, but I can't recall the third one. Fundamentally, Othello/Reversi is a lot like Tic Tac Toe. If you play it right, it's nigh impossible to lose. Hence it's not quite as fair as, say, chess.

The third name would be Go. AT least, that's what it's called on Yahoo!

Checkers is a game, Chess a skill, Go is an art.

Chess would be the top...hmm... the only other board game I've played within the last 4 years would have to be Risk (and I played risk on my computer  I'm so bad...)
