Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Be prepared to have a lot of military recruiters call you.

Did one service in particular have you take the test or did you take it for some other reason?

Either way you'll likely be hearing from all of the military services.

When I took my AVSAB I took it at MEPS so there were no recruiters calling since I was already there. I didnt realize the passing score was so low.

ASVAB was almost-mandatory at my high school. I say almost-mandatory, because they also schedule the SAT practice test at the same time as the ASVAB test. Either way, juniors(may be seniors?) had to take one or the other.

It's nigh on mandatory in many school systems, it was for me. I ended up with something like a 91 on it , recruiters didn't stop calling till I turned 23.........

Y'know, I still get recruiters calling me, too. :)

But that's ok. Because hey, I like my local Navy/Marine recruiters (the only two who call) and they know damn well I'm a Midshipman; they just call to see if I'm still doing ok and what not.

There is nothing wrong. You must recognize the difference between passing and being competitive. The military will probably always need cooks, cleaners, etc. That's the job for the 31'ers.
or am I just that smart?
You are probably smarter than average. Don't let that go to your head though because intelligence in itself will not guarantee success. Such other factors as determination and work ethic are what will make or break someone in the military.

Not sure if I posed this question in the other threads about this but here goes. Where do you take the test if it's not mandatory?~Jason

Go to a recruiter. I'm sure they can arrange one for you.

Let me put it to you this way....you have to be a test tube genetic reject to fail this test. (was mandatory for me as well) If I had known ahead of time that it was gonna take place, I would've acted like I was sick and stayed home. I wish the hell I had never take than stupid ass test. (I got a 96....need I say more?)

Nah, parking sucks at the local recruiting office :-P. That, and I'd fail the mechanical section..

I got in the 42 percentile for all 11th graders in Auto and Shop Info. I was in the 56 percentile compaired to 11th grade girls who took the test.

"So where do you put the gas?"
"I have no fucking clue..."

:D I did blind guessing on all but two questions (my father used to work on race cars, so I know very basic mechanics), but got a 55th percentile for 12th graders in A&SI when I took it. My next lowest score was a 93rd, with most being 98th or 99th. And the Coast Guard tried to get me to be a yeoman  . Of course, they weren't as persistent as the Marines. I had two recruiters after me for about a year (the one for the zone where I took the test, and the one for the zone where I lived at the time).
