This is a random poll... but I would like to hear some opinions about it. I'll include mine later.

Family.

Significant others come and go but your godamned family is ALWAYS there, looking for handouts, criticizing, making nuisances of thesmelves...oh....I'm sorry. I meant to say Family first, that's all.

my family sucks, right now significant other.

Family as much as they bitch, moan, whine, cry, yap(my father's saide anyways)...I still place them above significant other, until she becomes family.

Family.

It depends on the circumstances. In my case, family always comes first. However, if some kid whose dad locked him in a closet when he was little wants to tell his dad to go fuck himself and go fuck his girlfriend, I'm not about to hold him to my standards.

Family, because i love my family.

Oh and on a side note,I consider my wife family and we hope to make one of our own soon

SO practically, because I know my family will always be there for me, no matter what.

Family always comes first. They were there before the significant other, and they'll be there after.

EDIT: In a legitimate conflict of interest. Family doesn't come first in situations where, say, they don't approve of the significant other for some trivial reason like religion.

Bah, false title, I was expecting at the very least some kind of sexually based versus and what do we have....some soppy crap...doesnt anyone here realise the key imperatives of SD anymore?

Family, mainly due to lack of significant other, but if it was the significant other, then she would be family too. But at the minute, family always comes first.

I agree. =) Family is all I really know, and I've been with my SO for the past nine months almost, and he's starting to become a part of my family.

Or really, I in his. I wish my family would consider him such. Maybe eventually.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

So imagine my surprise when I saw as poll choices "Significant Other" and "Family" then...

Anyway, it depends on the situation.

I picked family, and I actually used this in an argument with my ex-wife: I don't remember what the argument was about, but it was a big one. Got bigger when I told her "Blood is thicker than Water." Family always comes first. they gave you life/raised you/loved you all througout growing up when you did stupid shit and STILL love you even when you do stupid shit now! (Like marry a slut who wants nothing but a meal ticket but being too dumb to fix it until there is a child involved...)


This, of course would be subject to change if, say, I was married to the significant other for something on the order of 30 years or something...My significant other Now, however, I can't see ever putting me in a position to have to choose, however.

It actually depends on the family member, seeing as I am not particularly close with the majority of my family(even my immediate family)

Your wife is a member of your family.

The day you get married, you swear an oath to put your wife first, before all others. The two of you are now one, and no one else supersedes that, not even your old family.

In fact, a common source of friction in marriages is mama's boys who don't treat their wives right because they're more concerned with making their families happy than making their wives happy. If you would never put your wife before your family, you're not ready to get married.

I'd say family. I owe them everything for making me who I am.

depends. Not all familys are the same and not all significant others are the same; saying one comes first by title alone is dumb. Some familys arent deserving of priority just because you happened to be genetically related to them.

Friends comes before family. Friends are the people you choose to be with. Your familty are just people who share your genes. And that goes double for spouses.

You might luck out and be friends with your family. But if they are a bunch of assholes, fuck 'em.
